He grinded his way up from homelessness, to doing plays on the Chitlin circuit, to being one of the most influential names in Hollywood. He was a rags to riches story in every sense of the word.

He's pretty much the only one actually employing black actors and actresses
He's become one of the most successful film makers in recent history
He caters to pretty much a 100% black audience
He owns 100% of all of his movies, TV shows, plays, and scripts
He created, I think, the only independently black owned film studio in America (200,000 square feet).
