Winston Duke, one of the actors from “Black Panther” who played M’Baka the Ape-Man is enjoying incredible success from the popularity of the movie and he’s getting some great reviews for his work, but now the internet is turning on him.

It seems like with overnight fame comes almost immediate shade, especially from people on social media. In Winston Duke’s case, he just learned a lesson: Be prepared for people attacking you about your personal choices, especially on the people you date.

It seems like the news broke out about whom the Tobagonian actor is dating and a lot of Black women aren’t thrilled with his choice of ladies.

If you check out the buzz surrounding Duke on social media, you’ll noticed that he’s getting roasted for what they call ‘selling out.’ Apparently he’s dating a woman named Meesh who has a white father and an Asian mother.

According to all accounts, Duke has been dating Meesh for a while and he’s been doing everything possible to keep her out of the spotlight, but like it was mentioned before, instant world wide fame tends to put ones entire personal life under the microscope.

Duke isn’t the only “Black Panther” actor getting heat for not dating a Black woman. If you remember back a couple weeks ago, just before “Panther” debuted, actor Michael B. Jordan got called out for dating a white woman, and it actually jeopardized the movie.

Apparently, a good-sized chuck of people on social media tried to get the Black community to boycott “Black Panther,” just because of who Jordan was dating. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and that boycott never gained momentum.

But now with Duke getting heat for his white/Asian girlfriend, could this be the second wave of the “Black Panther” take down? After all, this wouldn’t be the first time a petty scandal took down a movie – anyone remember the rape charges against “The Birth of a Nation?”

To refresh your memory, in August 2016, an unnamed woman claims lead actor Nate Parker and co-writer Jean McGianni Celestin raped her in 1999. The men were cleared of all charges, but the woman committed suicide. May say the film never fully took off because of the controversy surrounding Parker and McGianni.

So what do you think? Yes, we’re living in turbulent political times and race and the color of our skin seems to be back in the forefront of everyone’s minds, but is a Black man dating a half-white/half-Asian women really a reason to be put on blast, and worse, taking down an important film like “Black Panther?”
IG: winstoncduke
There’s probably going to be a small backlash from whom Duke is dating, but if you look at the few photos he’s posted of Meesh, they seem like they’re in it for the long haul. Is there something to be said for a successful, Black man dating whoever he wants, or is he wrong for dating outside his skin color?
