Important: Changes To Audio In VODS
Aug 06 2014 · 1,107 comments · Engineering, News, Tech

Please Note: Audio Recognition applies to VODs only.

Starting today, Twitch will be implementing technology intended to help broadcasters avoid the storage of videos containing unauthorized third-party audio. We respect the rights of copyright owners, and are voluntarily undertaking this effort to help protect both our broadcasters and copyright owners.

What Is Audio Recognition?

We’ve partnered with Audible Magic, which works closely with the recorded music industry, to scan past and future VODs for music owned or controlled by clients of Audible Magic. This includes in-game and ambient music. When music in the Audible Magic database is detected (“Flagged Content”), theaffected portion of the VOD will be muted and volume controls for that VOD will be turned off. Additionally, past broadcasts and highlights with Flagged Content are exportable but will remain muted.

The Audible Magic technology will scan for third party music in 30 minute blocks — if Audible Magic does not detect its clients’ music, that portion of the VOD will not be muted. If third party audio is detected anywhere in the 30-minute scanned block, the entire 30 minutes will be muted.

Its only in VODS (for now, but for a video to be a vod, it has to be streamed, so this pretty much makes it so you cant listen to music on stream).

This right now currently even mutes IN GAME music :dead:

thats right.. if you playing Zelda, your entire video will be muted :damn:

This shyt even muted Twitches own video up this week :pachaha:

I said this in the google/youtube buying twitch thread this shyt would happen (banning music), I just didnt think it would happen this quick

twitter, reddit.. pretty much any social media that has gamers on it is going hard as fukk right now on this shyt... people already moving to hitbox.tv - this shyt might end badly quick for twitch :damn:

it was all good just a week ago :damn:

edit: just for clarification, you cant have ANY music playing on your vods.. not even from a radio in the background, or anything..

I thought of this myself, but someone already typed it out so ima just copy/paste it here;

Really they just need to say fukk it and play their music anyways. And when twitch says something they just need to say straight up that if they dont like it they will leave. You have Mega streamers in the LoL community like TheOddone Trick2g Nightblue3 that are pulling 30k viewers at any time of the day.

Im not entirely sure what their contract looks like. And Im fairly certain Azubu pays just as good if not better than twitch. This is straight up garbage. Ive discovered so much music just by watching my fave streamers on twitch. I would love to see twitch crash and burn now that they have been bought out. Everyone is getting screwed here, the viewers, the streamers, the independent artists and hell even the major ones.

The streamers and viewers make twitch what it is. And as of right now they have absolutely no control of any of this. If nothing is done I will stop using twitch all together.

Twitch doesnt make twitch, a lot of the popular streamers were already building their brand and popularity before twitch was even created.. If they go to another site, their crowd WILL follow. its just a difference of typing in hitbox.tv instead of twitch.tv in their web browser and thats it..

twitch is out they mind if they think 30k people watch 1 streamer because they are on twitch :mjlol: they watch them because they are entertained by that streamer and even if only 20k follow them, thats still a big hit to twitch..

viewers have already proven to show loyalty to streamers and not the streaming service. Shout out to ustream, xfire, ow3ned.tv, justin.tv,etc that all came before twitch

Any game like GTA you will lose all your audio because of the radio music IN GAME :why:

yep... or in games like Day-Z or Rust or any game that has in game VOIP someone can come by and fukk with your stream by playing music through their microphone and get your VOD muted :snoop:

edit: dont even need GTA for an example. So far the program has banned ALL in game music from ANY game. You can be playing NBA 2k14 or Mario, it will ban any audio because of the music. Basically you need to mute the entire game, and can only speak through your mic and thats it..

For a company that made their riches from the internet they really don't understand how the internet works. Everyone will migrate. It happened with MySpace to Facebook to Instagram and whatever. Just like justin.tv to twitch and probably hitbox next.

Twitch poster child Man vs Game is already shytting on them :mjlol:

Wait, but isn't this easily avoided by playing royalty free music. Many youtubers who broadcast, just use royalty free use beats and they have lots of good shyt.

Google been on the steady decline ever since they kept force-feeding Google+ to everyone on Youtube.

When that happened I knew Google would start this shyt, too.

Google buying twitch and enforcing strict rules, as soon as they get too big and have too much to lose they wanna turtle their anus because they're afraid of lawsuits..:shaq2:

These corporations have to understand that there will ALWAYS be another medium, and if there is ever a possibility that they have the only shyt..I still wouldn't use it:umad:
