Gun culture and gross levels of poverty and inequality are the cause of gun violence. Having huge amounts of guns in private hands doesn't help, but all that can be feasibly done is to strengthen the background check system, increase waiting periods.

I am glad we live in a country where a government funded study can reach a conclusion that is contrary the executive's objective. at least there is no corruption in that regard.
Also, the study found that most felons get guns through informal sources, and for most gun deaths, the perps and victims are African Americans. How are stricter gun control laws going address that? Especially while guns are obtained from informal sources, they aren't stolen... Guns are coming in America through all sorts of sources including smuggling.

Well the idea is that by making it harder for everyone to get guns it would make it harder for felons to get them through informal means. Private sellers make bank by selling shady guys(some felons, some not) guns. No one is manufacturing guns in their backyard. They all come from legal places, it's just exceedingly easy for them to end up in illegal hands through loopholes and faulty checks, as we've seen in recent incidents.
