Enjoyed this a lot. Clearly a movie that's not supposed to be taken seriously, but I can see others believing it is by how slow and moody it starts. It ends up flipping the script on its head in a similar manner to Zahler's Bone Tomahawk at a certain moment, more specifically when Don Johnson's character is introduced, and the tonal shift is undeniable. You're either loving it or hating it at that point. I had a fukkin' blast on this ride though. Made me think of HBO's Barry at several points and now I'm wondering if Hader was partly inspired by this for what occurs in the third to fourth season of that series. An ole to the cheesy, old school exploitation flicks of the 70s that's reflected through some ridiculous, cartoony ass practical effects.

Vaughn's character had me convinced he was made of adamantium with some of the blows he ended up taking.
At least until the end. :mjlol:
When he went Hulk mode on that poor car. :laff: :laff:

Pretty good, but I thought Schrader could’ve gone even harder with the subject matter coming off of ‘Taxi Driver’. I can understand how shocking of a concept this had to have been to audiences in the 70s, but also feel like the story’s end result would be much more grim if this was made today.

I thought the theatrical poster for it was really well done and grabbed me instantly. Wish more movies could market their stuff like this, ‘Longlegs’ being the rare exception these days.

I liked how some of the sequences were shot like a horror film. There is something deeply unsettling about having to watch a father in absolute disarray have to drive around late at night and wonder where his runaway daughter is at, with nothing but sex shops and porn theaters surrounding him.

The last thing I watched George C. Scott in was Dr. Strangelove, which filled me with laughs. So to see him hopelessly browsing around a porno shop here took a little adjustment period, lol. Great performance though.
