  Confederate general and enslaver of Africans.Responsible for the Fort Pillow Massacre which killed murdered dozens of Black soldiers after they had surrendered and Black civilians living in the area of Western Tennessee. Served as the First Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and was instrumental in its founding.
• Wade Hampton III
  
  
  Confederate general and enslaver of Africans. Helped to sponsor and support the Red Shirts, which destroyed Reconstruction in South Carolina and allowed him to become governor of the state in 1876.
  
• Jubal Early
  
  
  
  Confederate general and enslaver of Africans. After the Civil War, he created the 'Lost Cause' mythology which portrayed the Civil War as an honourable struggle for their 'way of life' (really, their way of death). The modern display of the Confederate flag and the lionization of 'Confederate culture' is partly his fault.
