This has been a long time coming...but this whole pretend outrage over ESPN pulling out of this PBS doc on concussions is the biggest crock of shyt I've seen in a while

Uhhh- duh of course ESPN pulled out....as if they dont spend BILLIONS on the NFL so they can broadcast it.

These fakkit hipsters from Deadspin and their douchey photos writing article after article after article about guys getting head injuries....WE KNOW FOOTBALL IS DANGEROUS.

Stop trying to shine light on something every NFL fan already knows.

The NFL is fukked btw. It's coming to an end sooner than we think.

You'd feel better if they didn't point these things out?

Eh. Deapsin and its whole fascade of being the sports media crime fighters of the big bad corporate monster...when they're just as bad is starting to get old. Point it out, fine- but this is going to be a crusade by them....and its bc of their beef with ESPN.

:lupe: Maybe football wasn't sustainable in the long term.

In a league where the goal is to be bigger and faster every year, maybe this was always going to happen.

That's fine. If football is just too dangerous- then pull the plug. It's going to eventually happen....we all know its a super dangerous sport and guys are risking their lives....but this investigative "journalism" so they can get their over-privilidged rocks off to piss off ESPN is getting way old.

The Bostic fine just pissed the hell out of me tbh.

You'd feel better about this story if it were coming from Richard Deitsch?

Just not looking forward to the hit piece coming from PBS and the likes of Deadspin and every other over the top politically correct outlet fapping to it. I love the sport. The sport is extremely dangerous. Can we leave it at that?

Deadspin didn't invent journalism breh.

When did I say they did?

In terms if the new aged blogs that are competing against mainstream media....Deadspin is by far the strongest and the most influential....and they lean wayyyy against the mainstream.

Its intertwined. I think that's obvious. Its going to get ugly- there will be endless litigation, lobbyists etc... End of the day its about keeping football around. We're already seeing the sport being decimated.

I',m sure my opinion will be unpopular here, but meh.

i have no idea what this has to do with the ESPN pulling out

also, this isnt a Deadspin story, it came from the New York Times. Deadspin just put their bent on it, but it came from the NYT.

I know that. Deadspin's the ring leader of the follow up and beating it death....

PBS is running the documentary.....there's a bunch of different angles to the story....I think however its unfair to kill ESPN for getting out. They had no choice and Im sure the parties involved from Bristol who got them involved will be punished.

you work in the corporate world, right? you and I both know ESPN didnt just jump into something like this without the higher ups signing off on it.

It was a table for four: Roger Goodell, commissioner of the N.F.L.; Steve Bornstein, president of the NFL Network; ESPN’s president, John Skipper; and John Wildhack, ESPN’s executive vice president for production.

At the combative meeting, the people said, league officials conveyed their displeasure with the direction of the documentary, which is expected to describe a narrative that has been captured in various news reports over the past decade: the league turning a blind eye to evidence that players were sustaining brain trauma on the field that could lead to profound, long-term cognitive disability.

ESPN's higher ups knew about this for a minute, and are backing out because the NFL told them too. ESPN deserves every bit of criticism they are getting from this, and probably more.
