Here's one story that I got from another site.

I did at first. Where I was in my life at the time would not have been good for her. She was a good girl and I was nowhere near ready for a good girl. Once I woke up and matured I was blessed that she was willing to give me a chance to court her.
I was sleeping around, lying, breaking hearts and thinking only of myself and I was fine with my lifestyle. She deserved better and I didn't want to take advantage of her. She was really a good woman and I was like "nope not going to play with her or hurt her" because I felt she deserved a man that would be a "man" to her. I was enjoying being a player to much to get involved with her at all.

we knew each other for awhile. She didn't know the level it was on but she had an idea. I really got wild when my father died and used women for comfort. When I "rejected" her it wasn't like me being brutal. I would avoid being one on one with her and etc. When she told me she wanted to take it to the next level I told her I wasn't ready. We remained friends as I thought that would be safe because we were never intimate prior. My father died which somehow caused me to be even more of a whore to mask the pain. She came to the funeral and was there for me. Unbeknownst to me she contacted my four main girls and took them out to dinner and drinks.(MySpace was popular back then and you ain't a player if you're women didn't know about each other). She basically told them I was hers and would be so they need to back off. After that dinner I started getting calls from the women she took to dinner, all were mad except one of them. That one said we could still mess around lol. I was extremely mad at her for doing hat and didn't speak to her for over a year. Pride wouldn't let me call my friend. I eventually got tired of that lifestyle and the rotation of women. I started looking at myself got back into a relationship with God and prayed. Everything I wanted in a woman was her. I got back in touch and she put me through hell and wasn't really giving me the time of day at first but I hung in there. She was dating some dude that really didn't matter in my opinion. She faded away from him, she and I started spending more time together. They broke up but he was still calling her "to check up on her". I gave her two weeks to severe all ties with him. He didn't get the message properly so I spoke with him. By then we were officially dating but still not intimate. One day I'm at her house she gives me a login to her health records history. She told me before we slept together she would have to see my health history as well. And we both got tested together. After the all clear we became intimate. At this point we are tracking and having a ball. She's always at my house or I'm at hers. I told her we can't be shacking up and brought up marriage, she said she never really saw herself "married or having kids". I was already determined to marry this woman and had bought a ring months before I proposed. Whenever we went on vacation I would bring it with me. One day we were walking out of the Jazz festival in Miami and I just asked her to sit down. Now this woman..it's not easy to get her to do anything. After I had to raise my voice that I was trying to marry her she just plopped down right there. Many years and three daughters later we are still happily married and she is still as awesome as ever to me. I haven't strayed and I'm totally happy. It's not easy being married and it's hard work. Lord knows I get frustrated at times and I know I'm bullheaded and can be a a$$hole, but there's nobody that I'd rather be with. TMI I know but it is what it is

Nah, my current girl is a dime (to me, anyway).. I wanted her from the minute I laid eyes on her. There are some things about her I have since rejected as I got to know her, but never her completely

Men typically initiate, no reasonable person would argue this.

Do not conflate initial courting with the power dynamics of a relationship. When it comes to (x) liking (y) making sense for relationships (which seems to be the claim you are trying to discredit), it simply comes down to whether or not you feel comfortable having more power in the relationship vs less power. No relationship is 50-50 from a pure power perspective. There is always a chaser and a chased. The chased has more power. By all means pursue the relationship with the dynamics that work for you. But from my anecdotal experience, relationships tend to be more stable with the male or masculine partner (in the case of non-hetero relationships) holding the reins.

but if a girl was to reject me, best believe i ain't ever gonna try again cuz the way i see it is, if she comes back around (for whatever reason), i'll still be the same person she rejected before..even if i wasn't in her eyes.
