The hosts often would try to minimize them and cut them off but the audience always reacted honestly. One of the best was Khalid Muhammad on Phil Donahue shutting down arguments left and right.

As others have stated...probably not anything new or groundbreaking given that I think those issues have been discussed for decades even before 1988. But you just don't see this kind of forum on tv or radio today.
