Was bumping this joint yesterday:
and breh that starts rapping @1:40 made me remember what I loved about NY rappers. Dude sounds so.....intelligent and smart
I'm a southern dude through and through but was always drawn to "east coast" rap growing up. The jada's, Jay-Z, Fab's and A.Z's. I loved LYRICISM. I loved the intelligence. Maybe its the accent, I don't know but NY rappers always came off as more "intelligent". Dudes like Talib and Mos Def had a breh wishing he was from NY.

When I listen to rappers like Gucci, Plies, Master P, Yo Gotti, 2Chainz and a lot of these other mumble mouth southern rappers, I don't hear "intelligence". I know its mainly because of the accents. I've heard a few songs by a dude name Young Dolph and I can honestly say that he SOUNDS like the most unintelligent rapper I've ever heard. Again, I know its because of the accent. Not saying that these guys aren't intelligent, just speaking on the accent. I think somebody like T.I isn't given his due props because of his accent. Dude is a beast lyrically but some people lump him into the average category because he might not "sound" the part.
Another verse I've always loved was Roc Marciano's verse on The Heist:
2:00
Even before I knew who he was, his verse always stood out to me because of how "intelligent" he sounded.
I'm not saying NY rappers are more intelligent or shytting on southern rappers, but it took awhile before I started listening to "down south" shyt. Everybody else was bumping 8Ball & MJG/3-6 Mafia while I was bumping Gangstarr.
Hip-hop just seemed like a more "intelligent" art form when NY was on top. Now, with the south running shyt, its turned into a fukkin Minstrel Show
