What has J Cole taught these rappers? That being genuine goes much farther than any :duck: could get you. I'm not even a Cole fan, but I have to respect him. He sold 1 million in an era where that's near impossible. He even went farther than Plantworth, and that's saying something, seeing as how the critics TOLD you to like TPAB, whereas THE PEOPLE just enjoyed Forest Hills. He's got a good fanbase. Outsold Drake's two latest releases as well, wonder if Views will do those kind of numbers:sas2:

The question is, do you think these other rappers could do the same? Young Thug? If he switched his MO and started just talking about real life and not bullshyt (huge thug fan but let's be honest here). Rick Ross? We all know how he sold.:lolbron:

I just can't help but wonder if the lower-tier, copycat rappers had made some genuine music instead of making "trap" and going triple dust bunny, then maybe they would have sold better/had better fanbases.

Look at Kevin Gates. He makes trap, but he mixes in enough lyricism and honesty to make him a compelling character to the public. People LOVE him and his fanbase is only growing. If he keeps it up he could be Cole-level.

What people don't realize is there is a HUGE market for this, these labels are sleep. People want what they call "real hip hop" even if it isn't really REAL HIP HOP. They want someone they can connect to, and getting a cult level fanbase is the way to survive these days.

He won and I'm a huge fan but mixtape Cole >> album Cole.

Analyzing his 3 albums alone, one would never think that he was on Drake and Kendricks level.
Imo he's top 3, but his 3 albums are closer to Big Seans than Drakes and very far from Kendricks 3.

His 2 official mixtapes + his Ep's though :whew: :wow::blessed:.

I hope he stops singing and shyt on his next album, I really thought this would be it. The idea was perfect, his mind correct and he's pen game is sharp when he wants to show it (like January 28th, Love Yourz, Note to self and 03 Adolescence).

Another important fact today is that you won't get that real respect unless your albums are correct. And the non-commercial cats i.e. the people that don't say that people are winning cause they sell records or cause they are popular are actually a factor in todays hiphop just like in the 90s. And that's what's left from Cole to drop an album or two that gets respect from the people that really love and understand music.

He gets another plus for being one of the best live performers I've seen, so basically albums is the only thing left and albums is not very "only"..

People told me to like forest hills talmbout "it's the 2014 GKMC". I purchased it off GP and regretted it
Saying J Cole fans aren't pushy is an outright lie

J Cole fans are pretty lowkey. They might say he's great but it's once in a great while, unlike Drake fans who are constantly posting memes of him and Kendrick fans who are sure TPAB was the greatest album of all time.

It is a mystery

I agree they aren't at the level of pushy as Drake or Kendrick fans but when his albums drop they still go pretty ham
When forest hills dropped the way they propped it up I thought it was going to be some mindbogglingly amazing shyt when it is only an ok album and not even a best effort imo. It's not bad by any means but way overhyped

Cole taught us that racism sells.

Being half white makes up for average lyrical ability and content.

Didn't even know he was half white.

Explain Prince and James Brown and Jodeci and Ludacris and.........

Drake stans are the worst but Cole stans are on the rise. A few chicks I know who were sluts all through school and don't know shyt about Hip-Hop posting on social media talkin bout "J Cole is so deep. Other just rappers just disrespect women and talk about money."

:what: J Cole says "bytch" as much as anybody out there. And I'm actually a Cole fan but if you are wowed by his "depth", you must be a casual rap fan who really isn't used to high-level lyricism cause Cole is very plain and understandable.
