-Unpopular incumbent vs. challenger who isn't trusted or well-liked by the public enough to seal the deal.

-The challenger was an elected representative of Massachusetts and has a reputation as a flip-flopper.

-The challenger's primary was bland and didn't move the polls.

-The incumbent's primary was well-received and caused a significant poll bounce.

-The incumbent aggressively attacked the challengers characters early and often (swiftboat attacks, Bain Capital attacks).

-The incumbent is considered stronger on national security, the challenger is considered stronger on the economy.

-The challenger was well behind in the polls, but after a strong first debate performance by the challenger where the incumbent seemed flustered, stumbling, and angry, the challenger drew near even.

-There was a box office successful documentary on behalf of the challenger that excited his base, but nobody else gave a fukk a about (Fahrenheit 911/Dinesh D'Souza's movie)

-The election was/will be basically be decided by Ohio and the incumbent won/will win.

:ohhh:
