I don't think it's fair to compare the two. Blu has a great talent but he lacks focus and his music can be all over the place. Mac Dre, has been the forerunner of two movements, has 1 if not 2 or 3 classic albums (Young Black Brotha is a west coast masterpiece) he mixed the grim reality of the streets with his own sense of humor and was basically an independent artist his whole career. Blue has been well known for 3 years max, while Mac Dre was hot for a decade, and still gets shout outs and mentions a decade after his death.

Mac Dre was 1988-2004, reinventing his style throughout the years over the course of his extensive and highly acclaimed catalog. Blu is the papoose of the backpack world, we saw a flickering light of potential but it never panned out to consistency . . yet some folk will still champion these guys swearing by them but we all know that all we ever saw was potential
Blu's album cover > his career or that emotional album with no redeeming qualities for any average music consumer outside of people who like to immerse themselves in their sad emotions, possibly coupled with an addiction to hard drugs
