ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Tom Brady of the University of Michigan men's track and field team won his second straight 10,000-meter title on the first day of the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships Friday (May 10), hosted at the U-M Track and Field Stadium. The Maize and Blue are in fourth with 14 points.
Eli Winter put U-M on the board, grabbing four points with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw (65.69m, 215-6).
In the 200-meter dash, Dubem Amene set a personal best time of 20.96 to advance to the finals on Sunday (May 12). Amene's time is good for seventh on the program performers list.
Three Wolverines will also advance to the finals in the 1,500-meter run in Trent McFarland (3:49.36), Henry Johnson (3:49.65) and Nick Foster (3:56.16).
In the final event of the day, Brady sat in the middle of the pack through the first half of the race before moving into ninth place with 3,600 meters left. The graduate student continued to gain on the competition and took the lead with five laps to go. Brady crossed the finish line at 29:19.27, just 0.03 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Micah Wilson of Wisconsin.
Jack Kelke finished in 10th place in the 10,000-meter run with a personal best of 29:50.64.
The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will continue on Saturday (May 11) beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles.
