Aside from the cheesy hook I never understood why cats front on this song so hard. The beat is dope (prototypical 95-96 Dre beat.) And needless to say, Nas killed it.

"The Golden Child shot that ass up cause you was holdin out
Let the streets be the court, the corners hold the trial
Fatal not fictitious, I rock the cable 86 shyt
Foreign cars young with crazy bytches
Mad smoke makes me able to quote
Solicitin, ill editions of that Murder I Wrote
A provocative plan, can bring a knot to my hand
As the pyramids that stand on top of the sand
In the heat of the moment
Like Farrakhan said, we need atonement"

"In the black limo, Jack Daniels through the cracked window
I spot the fake, red dot his face like a Hindu"

"Rap hero, black DeNiro
Federal Bureau, tapped my line and got zero"

My guess is one or all of the following:

a) sonically inconsistent from the rest of the album (obviously)
b) salty that it isn't one of Dre's better beats
c) the hook (as you said)

But song is pretty good tbh. It's just the standout weak track the same way a Mamacita or Ain't No nikka are on Aquemini and RD respectively. Doesn't detract from them as individually dope tracks.

The song was just weak, the lyrics were on point but the hook and beat weren't easy on my ears. It's not the worst song I ever heard but it's definitely not stand out.

Yeah the song has always been underrated.

Nas' flow is so smooth. In fact his flow throughout IWW is :ohlawd:

And I like the spacey, hypnotic beat.

No doubt it could've been better but Dre wasn't really putting out much heat around this time anyway so it's about as good as can be expected.

Put up against his Deathrow and later Aftermath productions, Dre was definitely in creative purgatory during this time period and something was definitely missing but even then, his beats were still dope for the most part.
