Cac tried to take Simmonds' head off for no reason and Simmonds did the only thing he could, which was punch the caveman in the mouth.

I don't watch hockey (nor will I ever support or watch this racist sport), but from what I gather the cacs think Simmonds' jab was too fast and sudden. In addition the hockey cacs are racially biased against Simmonds, who has suffered racist taunts in the past, , so they call his jab a "sucker" punch.

Of course it's not a sucker punch. The hockey cac initiated the fight and watched Simmonds' jab the whole way.

The ref saw McDonagh drop and made the wrong call based on the flop. The same way a lot of fouls get called in the NBA.

Edit: I just looked it up, apparently McDonagh actually caught a concussion on the play
