Since we're getting technical and talking about mixes today. Here's a great example. One is recorded with a $10,000 microphone. The other less than $200. One is recorded in the box. The other on an SSL K console (the pinnacle)

This is from my days in the Bay Area. I hate this song to. It got me an opportunity that held me back a year of my life

I see the listens :francis:

I can understand no interest in the audio engineering discussion, but not one you want to hate on Mac Casper today?

if internet kid was on the $200 mic and the other one was the 10K mic, you need to toss your engineer with the 10k mic into the bushes

my homie wanted to test out a Neumann- tl103 mic so i laid down a song so we could see how it sounded. we were super geeked to use that neuman

but we didnt really like how it sounded compared to how i usually sound on his old AKG 220, so we just went back to the AKG

no diss on the mic, it prolly sounds dope in a better space with people who are more adept at knowing what to use it for, and how to use it. it didnt sound bad at all, but it seemed way more sensitive when hot, and also didnt really do great at picking up the bass tones in my vocals

The second mix (mi mix) is horrible compared to the first.

So i'll assume SC mix= $10k mic/ssl board and Mi mix= cheap mic/ITB

Last time I gave you a listen was projectcovo, you made a mixtapes full of 300 noises that you call songs, with a bunch of weird emotional displays. You sound like you're crying on the floor.

Wrong.

Textbook case of equipment isn't going to make you a mix. One is just engineered. The other is mixed.

Always remember that Thriller was recorded on an Shure SM7 -

The thing, the studio was recording Lady Gaga and didn't really care much for my business. So at $100 an hour, the engineer (who is getting paid $20-$25) is basically sitting at the SSL console working off a hangover - he just engineered the audio. Did not mix the song. I wouldn't go to someone like that for a mix.

The other engineer is a producer in the Bay Area with a prominent history including production credits on tracks that are staples of Andre Nickatina and RBL Posse's catalog

This is a bad test to be honest.

As I said in the first sentence, they sound nothing alike.

To conduct this test properly, you need a reference track, then 2 equal mixes.

The first one on the 10,000 rack Mic and console, right?
No, the second one. $10,000 microphone. $4000 preamp and SSL K console - I guess those are going for $165,000 now priced to sell . . they were $500,000 new are are the last of the "no compromise" variety of mixing boards from SSL

Now you have to go for Neve 88rs or Wunderbar audio . . . but it's not enough to just have the console . . it's not enough to just have the engineer. You need to someone ready to do a mix. The mix engineer and producer's responsibilities are a blur
