Deal's off

BOSTON — Within the span of 15 hours, the Knicks had reached a decision to acquire Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry before the trade was vetoed — at least for now — by Garden chairman James Dolan, the Daily News has learned.

According to a source familiar with the talks, Dolan had second thoughts about trading for Lowry and was also — what else? — enraged that details of the proposed deal had been leaked to the media.

According to several reports, the Knicks were prepared to trade Raymond Felton and Metta World Peace plus Iman Shumpert or Tim Hardaway Jr. or a 2018 first-round pick. The Raptors preferred the first-round pick, but Dolan — who negotiated the Carmelo Anthony trade with Raptors GM Masai Ujiri when Ujiri was with the Denver Nuggets — got cold feet about trading a future asset. That could open the door for the Nets to acquire Lowry.

“Dolan didn’t want to get fleeced again by Masai,” was how one Knicks source put it. “They had a deal ready.”

This may shock you, but even Melo says #Knicks are relying too much on him late in games. What he said:

"I take my hat off to my teammates for believing in me in that situation, but they've got to know I believe in them, too,"
he said in regards to the predilection of Iso-Melo late in games.

He added that he believes in his teammates to "make something happen and then when it comes time for me to get something going, then I'll do it. But I believe in them as much as they believe me in me and they've got to know it.

"They've got to play ball down the stretch, too."

The belief from critics is that plays are only run for Carmelo Anthony, which is factually incorrect. In my recent pregame segment (Wednesday night) I showed one example: the final play of regulation against the Pacers.

That play had several options, including JR Smith on a cut, which, when you see the reply, was wide open for a layup. But Iman Shumpert hesitated on the pass and instead fed it to Melo, who was forced into a contested shot.

Now there is also the opposite of that, which we saw in Denver. Melo dribbled out the clock and took the final shot and was blocked by Randy Foye.

With Melo, it's always about trust. He had that with Chauncey Billups and and Jason Kidd. That is a missing element here, for sure.

"There's time when we run plays and they're just looking for me to make something happen," Melo said. We've got to get away from that. We will."

" “I don’t think he’s still 100 percent. I don’t know if he’ll ever be this season based on the surgery he had this offseason."

Dolan probably is finally understanding the importance of picks because the Knicks could be lottery bound in this great draft and they got no damn pick.

I like Melo more than anything but really Dude?

When your team is losing you start posting up by the free throw line demanding the ball.

He does it preseason, regular season, all star game even in the olympics
