He started out as a hi top having Aaron Hall clone on the tail end of the New Jack Swing era with his crew the Public Announcement
The album was a huge success but he quickly dropped his boys and morphed into a bald headed sex fiend who also had a lot of love for his mama. With songs like Bump and Grind and You Remind Me of Something Kells was one of the first artists to be blatant about what he was after: that ass.
It was also around this time he discovered a teenage Aaliyah and wrote and produced her debut album which was a huge success. Rumors started to circulate that the two had gotten married.

By the late 90s Kells was a superstar. He was writing and producing hits for other artists and enjoying his own solo success. His music started to have more of a hip hop influence. In fact on the album R he only sang the hook and let rappers like Jay Z and Camron handle the verses. But he also gave us his biggest hit with I Believe I Can Fly. He told us what happens when A Womans Fed Up and how he wanted an unnamed woman to braid his hair.
He also starting putting in work with his Mr. Biggs saga which had actually started on the song Down Low and continued on Kelly Price's Friend of Mine. He helped bring the Isleys Brothers back to prominence and gave them a whole new generation of fans
This era also gave us the Best of Both Worlds which was basically just a hip hop album with Kells doing his best singing/rapping impersonation
Kells was working like a man possessed. Almost like he knew it could all be coming to an end very soon

In 2002 rape allegations were brought up when a tape of him allegedly pissing on a young thot. Altho he beat those charges like Rocky he started making music like he had a guilty conscience he also threw it right back in our faces by calling himself the Pied Piper of R&B (if you don't know the story of the Pied Piper look it up). He turned into a Cristal popping, name in the love stepping man who loved to be around happy people. He even renewed his faith in God who he claims "saved him". A conflicted man indeed
He basically stayed on this wave for some years but hee also gave us the epic Trapped in the Closet series during this time. Kells was proving to be one of the most consistent and creative R&B singers we've ever witnessed. However he needed to take a little time away from the game for throat surgery. But when he returned he was on his grown man shyt. Even tho he didn't always dress like it
He sang about love letters and having back yard parties. Kells was all about having a good time but didn't let us forget his first love: the ladies. Not even year ago it was alleged that Kells basically keeps a harem of sex slaves in his house. We already knew he was a perv but this definitely solidified it
At the end of the day he's a legend. He's the best R&B artist of the past 25 years and should only be mentioned in the same breath as MJ and Stevie. Lets discuss
