time to settle the difference. This thread is about the difference between the two.. A lot of dudes will say they're all the same shyt. Yeah Drill music is influenced by trap music from Atlanta (specifically the bricksquad/flocka/lex luger brand of trap music) but there is a huge difference between the two.

real trap music: not the fake european hump dance bs

i'll post more

ones about the trap, ones about drillin

true, but even then, they both have a different feel/vibe to them. Trap music is sometimes more playful(sometimes), like you said mostly bout trappin,

but drill music is a whole nother animal. The vibe is more aggressive, more sinister, more raw. The production ( mostly done by young chop & paris bueller) is more hard hitting and in yo face. Im making this thread b/c i've hear people on here and even off here talking bout how they all the same thing but IMO there's a difference. Esp. now in 2014

The music sounds the same if you would of said chief keef was from atlanta no one would argue. His sound is more southern than asap but somehow he doesn't get the hate from southern heads asap rocky does, Maybe its because rocky is like will smith in m.i.b and the south is the white dude.

it is just a regional term, to differentiate between southern and chi-raq, killa-drill-a-noize.
both use the same content base.
except drill is more reflective of chi's landscape.
while, trap is just atl's version of triple6 styled music.

both are just descendants of triple6's, barebones take on dj uneek's production style.
mixed with dj paul and juicy j's sample and synth base style production.
which is heavily eastcoast influenced, down to the heavy dj trigger/beatjuggle production style.
coupled with bone's take on westcoast shop style lyrics, content wise.

that is a descendant of the content found on criminal minded's my nine milimeter go bang, and the p is free.
as general rap doesn't make the connection to the east coast content.
which is more the cowboy edict and the death of funky four plus one/double trouble's member death from violence.
where even the misnomer of the original dj jazzy jeff is forgotten.
once, jive tried to transpose the philly based dj jazzy jeff.
over the original dj jazzy jeff, from funky four plus one.
is usually forgotten in the general history, of rap.

the production is nuffin more than an upgraded relevent take.
featured, on early 80's beat'em up bully style production from new york's 80's, and keyboard style work.

which you can find in early production work.
featured on, rundmc's king of rock.
where you can reference the instrumental on darryl and joe.

I will cosign up to the 3six mafia part...
its kinda weird that two whole subgenres formed out of 1 groups style... and really 3six have plenty of songs that aint stuck in that style...

basically trap and drill both just trying to do there best rendition of tear the club up... drill they talk about gangbanging and some drug dealing - trap they talk about drug dealing and strippers

all that shyt is a descendant of criminal minded's content and direction base like any high quality album based rap.
that features distinctive newschool commentary on the complextion of criminal life from a first person perspective.
all the way down to the use of 808's and sample based production.
over the traditional funk based production style of sugar hill and other ol school way of thought production.

none of that shyt, is exactly some new completely original spin.

people just like to forget krs one, in the discussion of high quality album based rap.
as it exposes a cultural reponsibility, most rappers in revenue grab fashion do not want exposed, or admit to.

chief keef is not the only nikka who make drill music though. i mean do these nikkas sound like they're from atl

i think you forgot that smoke and ride is also prevalent in chicago.
before atl, and triple six caught light on a national scale as well.
it is not like the chi does not have influential production and emcees.
who make material that is highly influential.
[cwal = traxster production]
not to mention,..
snypaz were signed to rap-a-lot.
where they brought the original smoke and ride series to the south.
where it was later used as the influential sound for twista's relaunch.
on top of the prevalent style out west.
that was employed by do or die's explosion on po pimp.

again, mostly all rap music is a horrorcore lift of newyork style artist in the early nineties.
that dates back to the introduction of criminal minded.
as the newschool way of thought's first and completely genre saving submission, criminal minded.
