With a scale of 1-10 how would you rate Ron Simmons in these categories:

-Mic work/promos

-Personality/gimmicks

-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)

-Overall rating (which doesn't have to be an average of the above scores)

-Mic work/promos
  • 7; nothing legendary but he got the point across that he is tough, sold the fight, and that he was always a threat. His promos as farooq Assad got major heat.
-Personality/gimmicks
  • 8; always a credible badass, and got over in doom, Simmons as a solo, farooq assaad, farooq in the ministry as a legit goon, and the APA was :banderas: status and revived him and Bradshaws career.
-Ring work (along with some of your favorite matches/feuds)
  • 7. He didn't sell much but he was in the legion of doom cloth that he's a badass, he doesn't need to sell like a hardy boy. I loved his finishers, as simple as they were. He also had good strikes.
Overall I give him a letter grade of a B, which is about a 7, near 8. I like Simmons a lot, and his contributions to the business make me give him benefit of the doubt at an 8.

A couple pieces of analysis so far:

  • It's very interesting that Rick rude is the highest rated TSC wrestler ever. Going into it no way I would've predicted that.
  • For all the people clamoring for a Chyna hall of fame, well, scoreboard :francis:
  • Jeff Jarrett is grossly overrated
  • Sabu and dlo over luger still blows my mind.

Dope as hell. I'm a big fan. :lawd:

Legit, convincing tough dude.

To this day I still feel like the Faarooq promos as Nation leader were legendary. Some of the realest, most convincing mic work ever. Dude got into that character and it fit him like a glove. Maybe I'm biased but that shyt really got to me. Always felt like they could have done more with it. He didn't have to be such a victim of The Rock's rise, you know?

He genuinely surprised me with his mic work in The Nation. Didn't see that coming at all based his NWA/WCW career.

It's almost a shame that he was so good at yelling "Damn!" because once Vince heard that, he was doomed to eventually be pigeonholed as a comedy figure.

Anyway:

mic work - 9
personalities/gimmicks - 9 (mostly because of his roles in The Nation and APA. Doom wasn't as good as it should have been, in my opinion.)
ring work - 7 (athletic for a big dude but obviously a little limited compared to the best workers)
Overall - solid 8. Can't quite justify a 9, but I wish I could.

Yeah I realize that I'll probably rate him higher than most will.

It's interesting the amount of people voting on each poll too

CM Punk: 86
Jeff Jarrett: 84
Scott Steiner: 81
RVD: 70
Rey Mysterio: 68
Sting: 64
D'Lo Brown: 63
Goldberg: 63
DDP: 59
Lex Luger: 59
Rick Rude: 59
Sid Vicious: 59
Tazz: 53
Ultimate Warrior: 51
Tommy Dreamer: 50
Vader: 48
Booker T: 43
Sabu: 42
Andre The Giant: 41
Chyna: 38
Roddy Piper: 38
Raven: 37
Terry Funk: 30
2 Cold Scorpio: 28
Junkyard Dog: 11

In addition, if you take away the comedy 1 and 2 ratings given to Punk by eight people not taking this concept seriously (including aliases :dead:) his rating would be 8.55 and he'd be 5th in the list

I'll always have a soft spot for Ron - he was damn near the only Black wrestler I remember seeing on the WCW show that used to air in the UK - 2 Cold Scorpio came later. The match with Vader where he won the strap is in my top 5 purely for sentimental reasons:to:. The brother in the front row who nearly jumped the barrier while marking out is still a GOAT fan reaction.

I enjoyed his work in the Nation but APA Farooq who was just out there stiffing the shyt out of people and hitting them with The Dominator might be my favourite.

As far as character he was a master of the :birdman:

I gave him an 8.

Rick rude being the highest rated in this whole evaluation is legit blasphemy to those who clearly have had better careers & more impact on the game than him.:dame:
Like who? If you include workrate Mic work and character, there are very few who have all three at the level of rude.

I evaluate based on everything. Not just skill set.

If that was the case you could give someone like dean malenko a 10

Dude didn't have a GOAT career compared to the likes of someone like sting, booker t, rey mysterio ,etc.
