new edition was the foundation; which was already huge and larger than life

then you had bobby go off and do the solo thing and succeed like no other. bruh was the shyt back in the day

then you had bbd which was ricky, mike, and ronnie and they had their own success

ralph did the solo thing and had his own lane and was able to stand on his own

and johnny gill did the solo thing as well and did his thing too

it's crazy but the way they did the group thing and then 3 of them did the trio thing and then the other 3 did the solo act and the all succeeded is indeed impressive. those guys really were the last great r&b group, period

this classic came on the radio tonight when i was drivin' to the grocery store and it got me thinkin' bout how great of career all of these guys have had together as a group/trio and solo wise

This is the GOAT group of the 80's and (personal :flabbynsick: rant) it pisses me off that their "sons" Boyz II Men are so disrespected for not being thugs in the 90's.IMO this is also partly the reason why a lot of people don't feel the older groups - all it takes is a hood image to get a :salute:these days.

funny thing is, its about spot on. Even among R&B or soul groups they are rare in that multiple group members went on to solo success or even as other groups. Trying to think of another group like that. The Temptations come to mind. The Jackson 5 . Eisley brothers. Midnight Star. Destiny's Child. Didn't think about the The Time, but Alexander O'Neal, Jesse Johnson and Morris Day all had solo hits. NWA? Cash money and Boot-Camp Clik(Duck Down) were trying to. New Edition's spinoffs had spinoffs with hits. Boyz II Men, ABC and The Good Girls all came out of New Edition's empire.
