Why do you think people always love the "Tragic Villain" storyline?

Most people always walk away from any movie, book, comic, video game etc walking away resonating more with the bad guy or girl with a sad story behind it than the person who represents virtue. We almost hate the virtious hero.

People hate Goku, Adore Vegeta

Liked T’Challa but loved Kill monger

Says slot about ourselves :wow:

Quite honestly because we can all relate. People are not cookie-cutter. We're packed with a wide spectrum of emotions/ feelings from jovial/elated to angry/sinister to depression.:wow:

Very true. I can't name the last time I didn't want a bad guy to win. Hard work gets over looked while the theif becomes a legend. :wow:

I wouldnt say Vegeta was a "tragic villain" per se, hes more of an Anti Hero imo.

Watched his dad die, watched his planet die. Was a slave to the man who committed the acts and was even driven to let them stamp the Majin stamp on his forehead to make him feel complete. That's a tragic Villain brehski

It makes the story better when the audience can empathize with the villain's motivations

Bad guys who destroy for the sake of destroying aren't that memorable

That's why a lot of people enjoyed Black Panther, and a lot of people thought the Vulture was the best part of Spider Man Homecoming

It doesn't always have to be a "tragic" villain. Some villains as soon as you see them you go :ohhh: saw Darth Maul, Boba Fett , Vader , and felt that way. Saw Anton Chiguhr, Harlan Degroat, Angel Eyes, and felt the same. Saw Megatron, Soundwave, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Shockwave, and Starscream during the 80s as a kid and felt the same. Got older and matured, saw Tony Montana, and it put things into perspective. Bad guys give stories an essence. A reason to watch and a reason to think instead of simply being entertained. Remove Satan from the Bible and all you have is the typical day to day going on's of humanity. Add Satan to the mix and you've got a universal chess match with real life pawns. Thank God for the villain.

I hate comic book movies but I'm glad Killmonger touched people. I hope Black Manta does the same.

heros spend most the film in they feelings like damn what am i gonna do with this responsibility what does right and wrong even mean

villains have convictions, true leaders who are comfortable with themselves and willing to do whatever it takes for their beliefs

usually the villain earned and sacrificed for where they got to, while the hero got lucky whether by virtue of birthright or truly random chance.

and often based on that luck the hero is straight OP while the villain is an underdog. i know thats not always the case like when the villain is some supernatural force but the villains youre talking about it usually is

tchalla and killmonger is a good example

spiderman vs the vulture in the most recent film an even better example

Honestly when was the last time you saw a happy self secure hero? The hero always fights the villain bc he lost someone, has low self esteem, loves someone that doesn't notice them, or doesn't fit in either socially or from another planet. Tragic heros should be a thing. We gloss over it bc they do good we dont really care why. The hero story is usually worse than the villains.

I don't like heros bc nobody ever wins every time. They win and still aren't happy. Judge villains before they know why they did what they did. They don't care for innocent bystanders either only getting the bad guy.

They usually were pure justice good guys till they saw that the other good guys were just as evil as the bad guys

Then they have a hero bsod
I don't know if you read the current Transformers comics from IDW, but this is how Megatron is envisioned, and his motivations make a ton of sense
