Why the fukk did David West turn down 12.5 mil to play for the Vet Min?

I could understand a few mil, but forfeiting 10mil over the course of 1 season for something that is FAR from guaranteed is just stupid to me
So he could lose to the Warriors or Thunder.
He's made $87 mil in salary in his career; he wants to win.
