that's why when i hear these bernie bro type arguments about how the democrats are focused on identity politics, all i hear is "If it wasn't for you damn minorities our fellow white americans would be more receptive to scandanavian style social democracy."
Bernie exposed this clearly:

1. White leftists dont like to NOT be the center of the dialog
2. I'm even more capitalistic than I realized because these ideal utopias always keep blacks on the bottom so we might as well chase paper
3. I'm still a liberal but the desire to shun "identity" is a bait and switch

In all fairness, they're right in a sense :yeshrug:

Countries with fewer minorities usually have more generous welfare states. It's just that they're misblaming it on "identity politics" when it doesn't really have anything to do with that. The real issue is that people are just generally prone to scapegoating minorities for issues when there's a large enough population of them, and that's not specific to the US.

The conservatives and corporate class are tricking low income whites to vote against their interests. They have been doing it for decades, and it is so ingrained they can't imagine otherwise. Therefore, the left has to use the same trickery to get them to vote for their and ultimately the country's interest. Let's try and be effective strategically instead of trying to be 'right' all the time. It obviously isn't working.

How exactly would the left appeal to low income whites? Start making racist dogwhistles louder than the GOP? :patrice:

The strategy is don't talk about identity politics, talk about income inequality and government policies to remedy that situation.
It's like fukking a chic, you don't blurt out, "I want to fukk!" even tho it is the truth. Appeal to their sensibilities not yours, talk about the positive emotions you feel toward them and demonstrate them in a non-sexual way, which will lead to you getting what you want. Fukking.

identity politics is too ingrained in society to turn back. If it’s not gay rights then it’s police brutality or something else. Poor whites are brainwashed and vote from hatred and the illusion of the scary black and brown people taking all their shyt. Our society is fukked up and we refuse to tackle the situation head on. Pretending it’s not there doesn’t solve the issue. It just makes it worse.

i don't think this will ever change. People NEED to feel better than someone else...If trying to help others threatens their ability to feel superior, they won't go for it. That's the reason trump won, he spoke to their fears and insecurities that successful minorities bring out.

Let the media, arts and academics have at it. But as far as strategically winning elections stay on policy and economics as a politician. Tackling the situation 'head on' is not working for the Dems, and really they are pretty disingenuous about it.

I'm not necessarily convinced that this would even be effective. But even if it was, I'm kind of :scust: at the idea that the path forward is to pander to racists, which is basically what you're suggesting.

IMO the Alabama election showed that the left is better off just mobilizing their base to come out and vote instead of trying to appeal to the sensibilities of bigots who are likely to still vote Republican anyway.
