Why did his hair look like that towards the end?

I can't speak for him but he must have different hair texture in the back of his head, than the front. I do. The hair in the back and sides of my head are far kinker than my front. I wave up after a simple hair cut on all sides except my front. It take grease, heat, water and time to get them waving.....when I let it grow, the front of my hair looks like I'm rocking a jerry curl like the dude in the vid. The back just starts to lock up/shrink together.
