AEW needs a “win” perception wise worse than ever right now so even tho she ain’t fresh off WWE TV, it’s still a good look for them to sign a major free agent, especially coming off their worst PPV in ages and in the middle of more scandals
She’s the only woman that they could get that could main event a PPV credibly so she deserves just as much, if not more, as what they gave the Elite months ago

Mercedes has a big fan base that follows her around, as shown by how quickly those two New Japan shows she was on in California last year sold out.
And all her New Japan/Stardom shows did big PPV/subscription numbers for both companies.
If her debut leads to a surge in viewership and it sustains while she is under a multi-year deal, it’s perfect timing for media rights negotiations.

If Mercedes did sign, then her debut should not be kept secret. There should be tv spots, radio commercials, website ads, social media announcements, and the whole nine. Mercedes should at least get the hype that Trinity got before she made her Impact debut, and the fanfare that Jade Cargill got when she signed with WWE. Mercedes has a pretty big fanbase that would tune in to see her, but many of her fans might not watch AEW regularly and might miss the surprise. Keeping her debut a surprise guarantees that only the usual 800K tune in to see Dymamite.
With a few announcements, Dynamite could probably get over 1M fans tuning in to see the Artist Formerly Known As Sasha Banks.
