True that. Been to Norfolk VA for a comedy show once, it was kind of dead lol. You right Hitchins should have leaned into the Haitian market in Florida, rep it on social media, connect with Haitian rappers, etc. Shakur should be fighting in Houston more as well. It's all about marketing

Marketing in Boxing is so lacking these days. I been saying for the longest, Boxing needs to stop trying too hard to promote so broadly to casual fans. They need to cultivate fans who already watch Boxing, and get them to pay attention to every single boxing match. Make the current Boxing fans rabid diehards. That's how MMA got big. They cultivated their diehard fanbase, and the diehards promoted the sport to the casuals for them

Its weird how they sleep on ATL and Houston for Black American fighters as both are cities where people look for any reason to go out and then you can double dip with the after parties and get content of the fighter with random Celebs to cross market. Like it seems Black American fighters can only be marketed as the bad boy or maybe the Disciplined Muslim thats straight edge and then every blue moon you get your Sugar Ray Leonard pretty boy types (he is British but you can saw AJ is the Pretty Boy Olympian black boxer of today just look at the response he is getting now that casual women discovered him after the Jake Paul fight.

Yupp promoting to middle class black communities like ATL, DC, Houston, NYC, Orlando, etc is a good start. Like you said with AJ, hate to admit but identity plays a huge part in marketing and attention. If AJ and Alycia Baumgardner start "dating" do you know how many eyes it would attract to Boxing, which I hate to say lol. MMA got big because they appealed to the "Working class alpha male white guy" identity. Boxing needs to update that. Using the "I'm a Black fighter from the hood and I can kick your ass" Identity is archaic and completely unoriginal

Exactly in this day and age you need a brand and then people buy into it. Floyd played into the Racism of Boxing, Mike was must see tv and you can say that was the lane Tank was able to benefit from.

Abdullah IMO should be pushed as Black Americas fighter and outside of Turki ring cards, market him in mid sized Black Cities where he can do their podcast circuit, radio show, and come out with the local artist.

It’s crazy that the larger society gives no f**ks about this fight. Even the boxing YouTube channels don’t really talk about this fight with excitement. 2 or 3 years ago this would have been a big deal. I won’t catch it because I’ll be doing a videography job.

I cant wait to see it..hes went the racist route and seems almost suicidal over possibly losing to a black man. Should be interesting
