Believable for older millennials (mid to late 30s) but younger than that? Please. Unless mommy and daddy gave them that stimulus package

I don't give a fukk what the technical definition or qualification of a millenial is, there's no way 1 in 6 people within any age group has 100 grand in savings. The income innequality coupled with inflation and student loan makes that figure impossible. I call bullshyt.

Like this is just a millenial issue lol.

I estimate 85% of people dont have 100k in savings. Theyre much more likely to be in the hole by that much though. Best case scenario for most if that they have a couple credit cards with 5k-15k credits limit that they keep for emergency or vactions. Most people arent even that financially responsible. They'll just as soon max them bytches on mindless shopping sprees. Either way I've contributed more than my 2 cents considering this trash ass article. I'm done.

I split the difference between millennials and generation x-ers based on cell phones and beepers, respectively.

I graduated in 99 and didn't know a single person with a cell phone in high school. Lot of brehs with beepers but none with cell phones. Hell, the only brehs who had beepers were drug dealers and dudes with jealous/controlling girlfriends :lolbron:.

My sister graduated in 2006 and she and all her friends had cell phones. They also had MySpace pages to keep things in perspective.

I graduated 07. I wouldn’t even say the majority of people had cell phones at my school. If they did they were those Nokia bricks or a flip phone. If you were cool you had a sidekick. Definitely almost half though. However, everyone did have a MySpace. I deleted mine junior year. I’ve been off the social media wave for a decade now. :blessed:

(:skip: damn it’s really been 10 years)

I remember everyone talking about Facebook and how you couldn’t even get one unless you were in college lol.

shyt...I make over 100k a year, but I wish that I had that much in savings.
:mjcry:

-Down payment on my house set me back almost half of that.

-Wife and kid that don’t work.

-Bills

-Unexpected expenses

-Plus being bad with money, in general.

I have more than 100k (and growing) in my TSP, but I’m not touching that until retirement. And that’s not an actual “savings account” with a bank. I’m getting better with money, though. I’m working on that David Ramsey guide. In 5-7 years, hopefully I’ll have at least 40k in a savings account. I’ve been over trying to “keep up with the Jones”.

Any financial brehs that got any wisdom or tips should share some of that. If there isn’t a thread about it, maybe someone could start one.

That TSP money is included in the survey I think. They mentioned employer funded options so I would venture to say they’re talking about 401k, Roth, TSP, savings, etc.

I certainly don’t have close to 100k lol. I have around 20k in retirement accounts. I need to do better...
