Junior lightweight world titleholder Jezreel Corrales will make his third defense when he squares off with Alberto Machado on Oct. 21, Golden Boy Promotions made official on Monday.

The fight will take place at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, and headline a "Boxing After Dark" card on HBO at 10 p.m. ET.

Corrales (22-1, 8 KOs), a 26-year-old southpaw from Panama, signed with Golden Boy earlier this year and made his HBO debut on July 15, when he won a hard-fought 10th-round technical decision against Mexico's upset-minded Robinson Castellanos.

Castellanos knocked Corrales down twice in the fourth round and Corrales dropped him in the seventh round, but the fight was stopped in the 10th round and sent to the scorecards for a technical decision after a very bad accidental head-butt ripped open a terrible cut under Castellanos' right eye. Corrales was awarded a majority decision via scores of 96-92, 94-93 and 94-94.

Now Corrales will have to deal with Machado (18-0, 15 KOs).

"I am very excited to fight for a second time on HBO, but this time in the headlining bout of a great event," Corrales said. "I know that Alberto Machado is a strong fighter, but I too am strong and intelligent. I know that my style of fighting will give him a lot of problems. I'm confident that I will defend my title for the third time successfully."

Machado, 27, of Puerto Rico, put himself in position for the shot at a 130-pound world title by dropping and winning a 10-round unanimous decision against Carlos Morales on Aug. 18 in Puerto Rico in the main event of a "Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN" card.

"I am very happy and ready to face the great champion Jezreel Corrales," Machado said. "I know that it won't be an easy fight, but I am more motivated then ever to take this title to my family and to Puerto Rico, who really needs it during this time of grief [following Hurricane Maria].

"This fight is for my son, my family and for Puerto Rico. I know that a victory would bring happiness to Puerto Rico after the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria. HBO is the television channel that each boxer wants to be on in order to keep moving on to better things, as was done by great Puerto Rican boxers such as Miguel Cotto, Felix 'Tito' Trinidad and Hector 'Macho' Camacho."

Demetrius Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs) will be moving up to middleweight next month to fight undefeated #8 WBO, #12 contender face Alantez Fox (23-0-1, 11 KOs) on October 21 at HBO “Boxing After Dark at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Andrade vs. Fox is the co-feature bout on the Jezreel Corrales vs. Alberto Machado card. Corrales will be defending his WBA Super World super featherweight title in his title defense against Machado. The start time for the Corrales-Machado card on HBO “BAD” is at 10:05 p.m. ET/PT.

This will be the first fight of a multi-fight contract for Andrade with HBO Boxing. It’s important that Andrade shines against Fox, as in his last fight with Jack Culcay last March, Andrade did not look at all good. It was one of his poorer performances of his 9-year pro career.

According to Dan Rafael, Andrade, 29, and Fox will be fighting in the 160-lb. division rather than it being a match at 154. Andrade currently holds the WBA World junior middleweight title since beating Jack Culcay by a 12-round split decision on March 11. It’s thought that the 6’1” southpaw Andrade could remain at middleweight after he faces Fox rather than moving back down to 154 o continue to campaign in that weight class.

There’s more money for Andrade at middleweight where he can get important fights against the likes of Saul Canelo Alvarez, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, Danny Jacobs and Jermall Charlo. The 154-lb. division has thinned out with Canelo moving up to 154, along with Jermall Charlo. The only notable guys left at junior middleweight are Jermell Charlo, Erislandy Lara, Erickson Lubin and Jarett Hurd. WBO 154 lb. champion Miguel Cotto be retiring in December, so he’s not going to be around after that. Cotto never showed any interest in fighting Andrade unfortunately.

With a win over Fox, Andrade will get ranked with one or more of the sanctioning bodies. It’ll be a matter of Andrade keeping busy before he eventually gets a shot at one of the titles in the middleweight division. Without HBO giving a push to Andrade, likely they’re doing with the recently signed Danny Jacobs, it’s unlikely that he’ll get a shot against Golovkin or Canelo. Those guys are the 2 stars of the 160-lb. division right now.

In addition to his WBA title that he currently holds, Andrade previously held the WBO junior middleweight title from 2013 to 2015. Andrade was stripped of his WBO 154 lb. title by the World Boxing Organization for failing to defend the belt within a 1-year time period. Andrade did defend his WBO title once in stopping #1 WBO Brian Rose in the 7th round on June 14, 2014. It was an impressive win for Andrade. After being stripped of his WBO title, Andrade defeated Dario Fabian Pucheta and Willie Nelson by knockout victories in 2015 and 2016. In Andrade’s last fight, he edged Culcay to win the WBA belt last March.

If Andrade stays at 154, he’s not likely to be involved in any meaningful fights. The division is really lacking in stars right now with Canelo moving up to 160. For Andrade to get the big money, he’s pretty much forced to move up to 160 to chase Canelo and Golovkin.

The Corrales vs. Machado fight will be preceded by Ryan Burnett’s World Bantamweight unification battle with Zhanat Zhakiyanov at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

Burnett won the IBF crown in style with a dominant win to dethrone Lee Haskins at the Belfast venue in June, and the unbeaten 25-year-old has wasted no time in setting about collecting more belts by stepping straight into a unification clash.

Zhakiyanov will be a familiar name for American fight fans having landed the WBA Super title against Rau’shee Warren in an entertaining encounter in Ohio in February. The Ricky Hatton trained hard-hitting Kazakh has boxed all over the world to plunder 27 wins with 18 inside the distance, but Burnett says this is his time and a huge Belfast crowd will roar him to unify the division and impress the fans watching on HBO.

“I’m thrilled to be making my US TV debut on HBO,” said Burnett. “This is a massive fight for the city – the first ever unification fight in Northern Ireland – and it’s an honour to be the man stepping through the ropes to make history.

“I know Zhanat is a tough challenge for me but I believe that I have the momentum behind me from beating Haskins and I won’t be denied on October 21. I would love to be in a huge fight in America one day and I intend to impress the American fans who will love the atmosphere in the SSE Arena.”

“I'm so pleased for Ryan and for US fight fans that HBO will broadcast this great fight live across America,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “I believe Ryan can be a huge star on both sides of the Atlantic and this is the beginning of showcasing his talents and what better platform than a major unification fight. The atmosphere in Belfast is going to be electric and viewers can expect a great night of boxing.”

same...esp that bantam unification
Hearn must be really confident in Burnett's winning that otherwise he wouldn't have put young gun in a unification right away
stylistically interesting too, just last day we talked about how all Adam Booth fighters fight the same way - Haye, Kelly, Burnett - also similar to Thurman, "ambush fighters" with circling on the far outside then jumping in with 2-3 punches and then jumping back, hands not high up, bouncing and shyt...
vs Zhakiyanov who's a straight scrapper

people with the style of Burnett tend to have problems with high output, good stamina pressure fighters because they themselves are usually less active and tend to fight in spots. Especially when the "ambush fighter" doesn't have great fire power to stop or at least discourage the pressure fighter.

Burnett has to bring his A game to win imo but the bookies have him as quite a big favorite

EDIT: double checked it and not SO big favorite actually

gonna be interesting how HBO rebuild themselves after TR left their asses

what do you think... they were about to quit boxing but the good ratings and the good year made them change their mind and lured them back or they never wanted to leave boxing just wanted to part way with Arum?

The most electrifying fighter in Sports entertainment

:wow:

Andrade and Eubank Jr. are quite similar in style

crazy volumes and stamina
non-stop combination including lots of uppercuts
sliding in the pocket in a somewhat crouching stance
mostly using upper body and foot movement as defense

Demetrius Andrade, Alantez Fox to square off on Saturday night

Whatever has happened in the past to derail the rise of Demetrius Andrade's career, the two-time junior middleweight world titleholder has put it in the past.

Andrade says the days of the protracted layoffs, small-time fights and petty bickering with his co-promoters, Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing and Artie Pelullo of Banner Promotions, are over. It's time for a new beginning and time to let American boxing fans see his talent once again and, more significantly, impress them. It's time to get them on the bandwagon and have them calling to see him face a big names in the star-studded middleweight division.

"Now the ball is in my court," Andrade said. "All eyes are definitely on me for this fight right here."

Andrade, who holds a secondary 154-pound world title, is moving up to the 160-pound middleweight division for the first fight of a new alliance with HBO. He will face Alantez Fox (23-0-1, 11 KOs), 25, of Forestville, Maryland, in a scheduled 12-round bout on Saturday night (HBO, 10:05 p.m. ET/PT) at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Andrade's performance will go a long way toward helping him move toward a future fight with one of the top middleweights, where the division's best are aligned with HBO, including unified champion Gennady Golovkin, superstar Canelo Alvarez, former titlist David Lemieux and former titlist Daniel Jacobs, who signed a contract with the network last month.

"It's a great feeling to be back where I need to be, back in prime time and back on HBO, which is supporting me and backing me," Andrade said. "My activity level is going to be back up and running. No more layoffs. I'm excited to come out and I put on a show against Fox. Not a lot of people want to step up and fight me, so thanks to Fox for that. I appreciate that. He's going to help make me a superstar, so thank you, Alantez Fox."

It won't happen right away, but Andrade nevertheless believes he will get his chance for a major fight. "I thank HBO for the opportunity so I can become the next big thing and get in the ring with Triple G and Canelo. It only makes sense. Who else is there to fight out there that's going to bring in the recognition but me, an Olympian, an undefeated two-time world champion?"

To many, Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs), a 29-year-old southpaw from Providence, Rhode Island, could have -- and should have -- been a star years ago. He was an accomplished amateur, the 2007 world amateur champion and a 2008 U.S. Olympian. He has pound-for-pound level skills, a big personality and the ability to get off a good one-liner, such as the time following his 12th-round stoppage of Willie Nelson in June 2016 when he told the media at the post-fight press conference to bring him any opponent whose name began with a C - Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and the Charlo twins, Jermell and Jermall.

Andrade's career had moved along smoothly. He was developed on ESPN2's old "Friday Night Fights" series and then made the jump to HBO, winning a vacant title in late 2013, then looking spectacular in a seventh-round knockout of Brian Rose in June 2014. However, then came the squabbling with his promoters and a 16-month layoff, during which time he was stripped of his world title. He also turned down a multi-fight contract with Showtime, which would have kicked off with a December 2014 fight against Jermell Charlo.

Andrade claims that Roc Nation Sports was interested in buying his promotional contract from DeGuardia and Pelullo and promised him $550,000, the same amount of his would-be purse to face Charlo, if he turned down the fight to allow them more time to finalize the contract purchase. The alleged deal went south. Andrade never got the money, and the promoters sued Roc Nation for interfering with Andrade's agreement. Andrade also sued Roc Nation for the $550,000. The matter is still in litigation but it cost Andrade dearly.

"After the Roc Nation debacle, it's been a long hard road to get him back on HBO," Pelullo said. "It probably set him back three years."

Andrade returned for a non-televised low-level fight in October 2015 and got a chance to face Nelson on Showtime in June 2015. But even after a tremendous performance, Showtime showed little interest in his next fight. Andrade was off for another nine months before going to Germany as the mandatory challenger for secondary titlist Jack Culcay. Andrade won a split decision, but that fight also had no U.S. television outlet.

"It's not something I wanted to do, go overseas, but it was something that had to be done," Andrade said. "Other than that what was my option? I don't got time to sit and wait for guys like Canelo. I destroyed Willie Nelson, and he would have given anyone a hard time, and then I went out to Germany and while it wasn't my greatest performance I did what I had to do to win."

He had hoped to parlay that victory into a mandatory fight against titlist Erislandy Lara. However, the WBA put off ordering the fight, leaving Andrade and his team frustrated.

"I took the fight (with Culcay) because I was told it would mean a Lara fight after that," Andrade said. "But then he went and fought someone else. They don't really want to fight me. I'm trying to give the fans fights they want to see. The other side doesn't want to do that."

Lara was given an optional defense to face Terrell Gausha, whom he easily outpointed in a dreadful fight on Showtime last Saturday, during which most of the crowd left.

"I went to Germany for low money and took the risk so the Lara fight could happen. I took the step that I had to take for that fight happen and you see what side didn't want the fight," Andrade said. "Lara talks about how I priced myself out. How do I price myself out when I went to Germany for low money? Right now I'm focused on Alantez Fox. His '0' got to go. I'm not worried about Lara. I'm on HBO and looking to fight anyone who can fight on HBO."

The opening for Andrade came at HBO, in part because of his willingness to move up in weight, but also because of HBO's own situation. It had seen Top Rank take all of its fighters to ESPN for a long-term deal a few months ago. That left HBO with money to spend and in search of the best available talent to take the place of Top Rank fighters such as Terence Crawford and Vasyl Lomachenko on the network's schedule. Andrade, clearly the top fighter available, was willing to move up to middleweight, where the network is so heavily invested.

"Timing is everything," Pelullo said. "Arum leaving HBO and Demetrius being a real player at 154 and now going to 160, he fits into the picture with Canelo, Golovkin, Lemieux and Jacobs. There are a lot of fighters there and they fight on HBO. We're hoping that Demetrius wins and it will lead to one of those fights. I think Demetrius will look very good at 160 pounds. He won't have to worry about cutting the weight and he'll be a lot stronger. He's going to shine and be a real force at 160."

HBO Sports executive vice president Peter Nelson, who made the deal to bring Andrade to the network, said bringing him aboard made perfect sense. "Obviously, we're invested heavily at middleweight. Some of the top talent in the world is at middleweight," Nelson said. "There's Canelo, Golovkin, we have Daniel Jacobs fighting on Nov. 11 and just announced David Lemieux will face (titleholder) Billy Joe Saunders on Dec. 16. So in light of all of that, Andrade certainly can figure into that mix. But a lot of guys will look at him as high risk, low reward, so he's going to have to earn it."

"Demetrius Andrade is a brilliant craftsman, he's got one of the highest ring IQs in the sport and he knows that if he's going to build a real fan base, become a star, he's got to earn it. So he has to go out and perform. Whether he does is what we're going to find out on Saturday night."

For the first time in a long time, there is no drama in Andrade's career. He and his promoters are in synch for a change and a plan endorsed by HBO is in place.

"Were all on the same page and now the agenda is to get him the best and biggest financial fights possible," Pelullo said.

Now it's up to Andrade to shine. "I can't tell you what I'm gonna do, just tune in and watch what I'm gonna do," he said. "Watch me and say, 'Damn that boy is good.' I'm still young, tall, black and handsome. I have plenty of time. Don't get hit a lot. Boxing is missing me. It was frustrating for me what's happened but the fans will see me and they'll know this kid's the truth. This is perfect timing. You will see the cream rise to the top."
