Welterweights Jamal James and Jaron “Boots” Ennis have their returns official now, as Showtime have announced their Oct. 30 tripleheader from Las Vegas, featuring the two in separate bouts.

James (27-1, 12 KO) will defend his secondary WBA title against Radzhab Butaev (13-0, 10 KO), while the exciting young star Ennis (27-0, 25 KO) faces veteran Thomas Dulorme (25-5-1, 16 KO) in the co-feature.

The card will open with a lightweight bout between Michel Rivera (21-0, 14 KO) and Matias Romero (24-1, 8 KO).

“Training is and has been at 100%,” said James. “I’m excited to finally get back in the ring and defend my title. This will be the fight where I show everyone why I’m elite in this profession and should be recognized as one of the best.”

With a win, James could set himself up for a possible rematch with Yordenis Ugas, who holds the WBA’s real welterweight title. Ugas upset James back in 2016, when the Cuban was brought in following a layoff of over two years and two straight losses as a 140 lb fighter. That win put Ugas on the path to where he is now, recognized as one of the world’s top welterweights.

But the 27-year-old Butaev, a Russian based in Brooklyn, is not an opponent to overlook. He did lose to Alexander Besputin back in Nov. 2019, but that was changed to a no-contest when Besputin failed drug tests. He’s fought once since, returning last December with a win.

“We’ve been working hard for a year leading up to this fight,” said Butaev. “Everything is going really well in camp and we’re excited to finally get in the ring against James. I’ve seen how James fights and it’s definitely going to be a clash of styles. I can just promise that I’m going to bring the war and make this an exciting fight. I’m going to start writing my history.”

Philadelphia’s “Boots” Ennis is one of the hottest young stars in the sport, and a clear rising contender at 147 lbs. He, too, could put himself in the mix for a big fight with a win this time out.

“This is another step towards becoming world champion! They haven’t seen nothing yet,” Ennis said. “It’s time for me to continue to shine and be great. I can’t wait to show out and have some fun.”

Dulorme, a young vet at 31, is battle-tested and still a tough fighter who can give opponents a real test. He’s lost two in a row and is just 1-3-1 in his last five, but the losses were to Ugas, James, and Eimantas Stanionis — who is expected to face Ugas next — and the draw came against former titlist Jessie Vargas.

“I think in the Stanionis fight I demonstrated that I am still at the top level,” said Dulorme. “A lot of people told me I won that fight and I thought I did too. I’m excited to face Ennis because he’s a good fighter, but he hasn’t fought anyone like me. The fans can expect another great performance from me.”

Rivera, a Dominican lightweight and another rising contender, had a highlight reel KO in his last outing in July, and will look to build from that and keep his name in the mix in the hot 135 lb division.

“Romero made a big mistake taking this fight,” said Rivera. “What he’s seen from me in the gym, is not the same thing that he’s going to see on fight night. He is far from a fight night fighter. He folds under pressure or runs. He is a good fighter, but he’s not at my level. I won’t let him go the distance like Isaac Cruz did. I’m going to give him the beating of his lifetime.”

As Rivera mentioned, Romero went the distance in a very competitive loss to Isaac Cruz in March, and now will try to get a big win.

“Rivera and I have the same promoter and I personally requested for Sampson Lewkowicz to let me fight him when I saw he had no opponent,” said Romero. “I am willing to step in because I know I can beat him. We have trained at the same gym, but never sparred. His style is perfect for my style. This is going to be another victory for me to add to my collection.”

Super lightweight contenders Jean Carlos Torres and Darwin Price will meet in a 10-round bout highlighting non-televised undercard action this Saturday, October 30 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The card is headlined by a Showtime Boxing tripleheader that will see WBA "regular" welterweight champion Jamal “Shango” James defend his title against unbeaten contender Radzhab Butaev in the main event. In the co-main event, rising welterweight star Jaron “Boots” Ennis steps in for a showdown against veteran contender Thomas Dulorme, while exciting unbeaten lightweight contender Michel Rivera faces Argentina’s Matías Romero in the telecast opener at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event are on sale now and can be purchased at AXS.com.

Non-televised undercard action will also see a pair of once-beaten welterweights duel as Argentina’s Alberto Palmetta (16-1, 12 KOs) faces Colombia’s Yeis Solano (15-1, 10 KOs) in an eight-round fight. Rounding out the undercard are super lightweight prospects David Lopez and Lazarus Velasquez squaring off in their pro debuts for a four-round fight, and unbeaten prospect Jose Sanchez (7-0, 5 KOs) taking on Mexico’s Fernando Garcia (13-3, 8 KOs) in a six-round featherweight attraction.

The 31-year-old Torres (19-0, 15 KOs) fought in the U.S. for the first time since 2016 in his last bout, as he stopped Zack Kuhn in two rounds in June on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul undercard. A native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Torres fights out of the Mayweather Promotions stable and was a sparring partner for three-division champion Gervonta Davis as Davis prepared to face Leo Santa Cruz in 2020. A standout amateur with a 78-15 record, Torres has stopped his last eight opponents inside of the distance ahead of his toughest challenge to date in Price.

Price (17-1, 10 KOs) returned to the ring in April to knock out Saul Corral in the fifth round. His previous outing had come in December 2019 when he suffered a knee injury that forced him to take a TKO loss against Malik Hawkins, in a fight Price led on the scorecards. Originally from St. Louis and now fighting out of Houston, Price was a standout track and field runner at Grambling State University before turning pro and winning his first 16 fights.

I haven't seen Butaev fight yet, that would suck for James if he took an L before ever getting a big fight or a legit title shot

Darwin Price Drops Jean Carlos Torres, Stops Him After 6th Round On James-Butaev Card

LAS VEGAS – Nearly two years after a knee injury led to his only loss, Darwin Price rejuvenated his career Saturday night.

The Houston resident stopped previously unbeaten Juan Carlos Torres in a non-televised welterweight bout on the Jamal James- Radzhab Butaev undercard at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena. Price dropped Torres in the third round and battered the Puerto Rican prospect at times thereafter.

A Nevada State Athletic Commission physician instructed referee Russell Mora to stop their scheduled 10-rounder following a one-sided sixth round.

Price upped his record to 18-1 and recorded his 11th knockout. Torres, who is promoted by Floyd Mayweather’s company, slipped to 19-1 (15 KOs).

The 32-year-old Price’s victory enabled him to overcome a fifth-round, technical-knockout defeat to then-unbeaten Malik Hawkins in December 2019. Before he suffered a knee injury during the fifth round, Price had won each of the first four rounds on all three scorecards versus Baltimore’s Hawkins (18-1, 11 KOs) in a fight Showtime televised as part of the Gervonta Davis-Yuriorkis Gamboa undercard at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Price was sharp again Saturday night against an unbeaten but largely unproven opponent.

A ringside physician examined Torres before allowing him to start the sixth round. Price landed short shots inside as an open Torres pressed forward, with his hands down, during the sixth round, but Price couldn’t hurt him in those three minutes.

Mora warned Torres for a low blow at just about the halfway point of the fifth round. Torres managed to make that round competitive, but Price’s punches seemed to have more effect than Torres’ shots.

Torres backed up Price for much of the fourth round, but Price was effective to Torres’ head and body at times in that round.

Torres got off to a strong start early in the third round, when he got good extension on a right hand that appeared to affect Price. Less than a minute later, though, Price landed a right hand that knocked Torres to the canvas.

Torres answered Mora’s count, but Price picked him apart toward the end of that round. Torres did manage to connect with another right hand that got Price’s attention toward the end of the third round.

Boxing off his back foot, Price continued to succeed by landing head and body shots while avoiding many of Torres’ punches during the second round.

Price buckled Torres’ knees with a right-left combination that connected just before the midway mark of the first round. Price’s activity and hand speed troubled Torres throughout that round.
