A lot has happened since 2008. At the time and for a few years after, the general consensus was that Dark Knight is the best comic book flick ever. Obviously not everyone feels that way but again, just the general consensus here.

But is it still that way? And if not, what now stands on top of the comic book flick mountain? Or yeah, is dark knight still the pinnacle? Been thinking about this lately and wanted to get the film room’s thoughts.

As cinematic experiences go its still top dawg but Black Panther is right there

Yeah Panther is the one I can see toppling it in my estimation. Other movies have affected me more than Dark Knight, like the two guardians movies or even Homecoming but that’s personal emotion stuff. Dark Knight just feels perfect to me. The look, the feel, the story, the characters, the performances, and the themes. Much like black panther or winter soldier, or even civil war, it’s talking about larger issues but wrapping them in a comic book movie. And for me, the best ones normally have something really heavy I can get into

Hmm. I think The Dark Knights cinematography helps give it the edge over my personal favorite, Winter Soldier. Black Panther beats it in theme, though.

Edit
One negative I have with Nolan's Batman trilogy is that the fight scenes were ass.

That trilogy will probably be the best comic book trilogy forever. The same way Mortal Kombat is the best live-action video game movie.

Idk man. Dark Knight Rises takes the trilogy as a whole down several notches for me. If we never get another Cap movie, I'm leaning towards those three movies.

Bet. So why does it still reign supreme over everything else that’s come in its wake?
Like another person mentioned, I favor the cinematography just a bit more than most of the other movies that have come out. The fact that it was gritty but it didn't scream to your face "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME, I'M DARK AND BADASS" like DC movies nowadays do. Also, I liked what they did with the Joker's character. Silly yes, but also sinister and someone who you did not want to fukk with. Heath Ledger, my goodness.......I still get goosebumps from watching his performance.

DC.....what the fukk happened, man? :snoop:

Black Panther is up there, and I found myself at one point going "Damn, I haven't watched a movie this many times since.....The Dark Knight." That's when you know..

I still am not impressed with the 1st Cap movie. So we are gonna have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I like the first cap movie a lot. But even if I just liked it a little, that little is more than I like dark knight rises so that would cancel it out anyway

Well Dark Knight was an auteur vision homie. That's one man saying exactly how everything is going to function, from the look to the feel to the script to everything. It's different than a producer driven model DC and Marvel use now, although Marvel does seem to be loosening the reigns and that will only be a good thing. But you can loosen the reigns with success. Patty Jenkins seemed to be able to do her thing though so we'll see what the future holds

yup, still my personal favorite. dark, gritty and a lot of layers/themes that leaves you thinking. plus heath ledger's performance was legendary. it didn't feel like a superhero movie because of the great cinematography. all of that over the top CGI is played out and not as enjoyable as live action. this might be an unpopular opinion but Logan is a close second. another classic comic movie.
