Devin Haney doesn’t anticipate a cakewalk when he meets Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Haney is set to put his WBC Lightweight Championship on the line against Gamboa on November 7. Haney vs. Gamboa is being promoted by Matchroom Boxing USA. It’ll air live on the sports streaming service, DAZN.

Ring Magazine spoke to Haney ahead of the title fight. The 135-pound champion made it clear that he isn’t looking at Gamboa as a pushover.

“He’s a dangerous guy. People shouldn’t look past Gamboa. I’m not. I’m healed and 100-percent and I feel great. Seeing how strong I am, I feel like haven’t lost anything. Gamboa is a tough guy, and lot of people don’t understand that. He took Tank Davis 12 rounds and the guy was in that fight for 12 rounds (in Dec. 2019), before he tore his Achilles.”

Haney’s pro boxing record currently stands at 24-0. He’s scored 15 knockout victories along the way. Haney hasn’t competed since November 9, 2019. He defeated Alfredo Santiago via unanimous decision to retain his WBC gold. Haney suffered a microscopic tear in his right labrum during this fight and underwent surgery.

Gamboa fought for the WBA (Regular) Lightweight Title in his last fight. He ended up falling short against Gervonta Davis, suffering a TKO loss in the 12th round. It was the third defeat in Gamboa’s pro boxing career.

Both coming off injury it's whatever, not overly happy with it but could be worse for a young fighter. Haney supposed to get winner or Campbell/Garcia doubt Garcia happens if he wins
Yeah and Campbell might get snatched by someone else too.
Haney's problem is that while he is quite a big name on social media he still doesn't wort the risk to these dudes to fight him as opposed to a Lopez who holds 4 belts, a Tank who's been around longer and even if not by a landslide but more known or a Garcia who's as close to an "influencer" as a boxer can get and has a huge following.
Haney needs a breakout win somehow against a top 5-10 guy, I can only hope Hearn can provide that to him but his own stablemate Campbell fighting Garcia instead of him isn't promising.

Arum actively trying to drive his fighters away from Haney too. Loma with the franchise application then Lopez mentioning him post fight but Arum saying he'd rather not do it because he likes the Garcia fight more...
They see he's a threat.
He is still very young though, he just needs to stay active, be patient, his time will come. He has a considerable social media pull himself so he won't be denied forever. With that said he needs to leave to PBC or Top Rank if Hearn can't provide him quality opposition.

And please for God's sake nobody try to come with Fortuna you don't even think seriously that he'd duck Fortuna. He beats Fortuna any day imo just based off the eye test. Also he was in position to challenge Loma, too bad that in 2020 that doesn't mean shyt.

Yeah I agree he needs a big fight, while he has popularity like you said its obvious that tank rank/ pbc doesn't want to so business with him. And I agree he should have been fighting luke Campbell instead of Ryan g that would have been a great name on his resume. Hearn has to to do a better job after this fight in finding him an opponent that will both be a challenge and b push him forward quicker to the upper echelon. Bob arum really fukked him over with the Loma shyt, that totally delayed his ascend as a fighter this year. Luckily for him he's still on 21 soon to be 22. Fortuna isn't even worth fighting I'd dead ass rather him move up to 140 if no fights at 135. Should be less politics at 140

I disagree with the Fortuna take as I think Fortuna would be a good step up opponent for him I just find it ridiculous to think he'd be ducking him.
Otherwise agree
Problem is Matchroom can't really offer him anyone at 140 and 147 either... Campbell and that's it, I mean from step up opponents.

Don’t forget about Arum pulling Teofimo out of the WBC tourney where Devin and him were both going to meet for mandatory to Loma. Top Rank been fukkin over Devin for a minute now.

undercard info - which is pretty bad...the young prospects its whatever but the other shyt is :smh:

Both events have stacked undercards in support of the main event. There’s a Heavyweight flavor to the Haney card with Croatian talent Filip Hrgovic (11-0, 9 KOs) facing American Rydell Booker (26-3, 13 KOs) and Chinese star Zhilei Zhang (21-0, 18 KOs) meeting another American in Devin Vargas (22-6, 9 KOs). Three young stars continue their pro journeys on the bill as Reshat Mati (7-0, 5 KOs), Raymond Ford (6-0, 2 KOs) and Arthur Biyarslanov (6-0, 5 KOs) are in action on the show – and Matchroom are delighted to announce the signing of French star Souleymane Cissokho (11-0 7 KOs) to a multi-fight deal and he’ll box on the bill, and more details on the deal for the Anthony Joshua managed Super-Welterweight will come on Monday.
