They say necessity is the mother of invention and this is sure the case when it comes to 13 and 15 year old, Nigerian brothers Anesi and Osine Ikhianosime. Their necessity is their need for a faster mobile web browsing experience…because who wants to wait a few extra seconds for Google Chrome to load when you can build a better browser?

The dynamic coding duo are your ordinary African teenagers. They attend school in Greensprings school, Anthony Campus, Lagos. They love their friends, soccer, to have fun and coding, obviously.

The young problem solvers got tired of waiting for Google Chrome to load on their mobile phones, so decided to do something about it instead of complain. They decided to build a better mobile browser last year and called it Crocodile Browser Lite. It is currently live and ready for your download in the Google Play store right now.

Raised by parents who believe education and technology is very important to the lives of all, they were raised with high aspirations in mind. Their mother says they were able to use the computer before they know how to read and have always been fascinated with technology, creating, building and solving problems.

By the age of 7 & 9, the duo knew they wanted to start their own technology company. Inspired by Microsoft Windows platform, they decided to name their company “Doors”. However, later they discovered that the name was taken, so they changed it to Blu Doors”, which is still the current name of the company.

At the ages of 12 and 14, they decided to take on the task of learning how to code. They taught themselves, but had much encouragement, inspiration and access to computers from their school. They did take advantage of free resources. “I learnt to code by myself. I startede in 2013, I used sites like Code Academy, Code Avenger and books like ‘Android for Game Development’ and ‘Games for Dummies,” said Anesi.

The plan to create a better browser for low end featured phones is one that is needed for the developing world. While Chrome and other browsers work great on high end smart phones, the majority of the world are not using this technology and need a low-end option that still provides quick browers response, so this is what the young men did. They built a better mouse trap for the phones they were using.

Crocodile Browser Lite 3.0 will be available this year in the Google Play store and something you should check out to give the young people support. They currently have over 500 downloads of their browser, but hoping to see it grow in the near future.

Their future plans are to attend MIT in the United States because they feel the educational opportunities, resources and access to technology are exactly what they need to positively impact the future as then intend.

Hats off to these young men and their family!

Good for them.

But we will never think the way these Nigerians do. They just care more about education. We care more about money.

Nope

You're failing yourself. It is just a cultural thing with Africans. I told y'all parents over there love floss their children's education accomplishments which leads to HEAVY competition.

These kids aren't smarter they are just taught the vaule of education and have hands on parents. Going to school in Kenya was tough gruelling but ultimately the best thing I ever did. My brothers teaches kept him in lower level classes in Canada. Same CAC shyt they do in the states. Institutional racism. Just so y'all know asians ain't got shyt on Africans in education given the same opportunities we murk em. I went to an Indian grade school in Nairobi and I finished at the top of my school in the KCPE. Ask about it...

Didn't read past failing myself. Nope. I have been very successful putting money over education.

I think education is overvalued. I'm an American hustler and that's all I want to be.

It's like you ignored what I said and injected whites and Asians.

I'm in the computer industry. Skills rule in my domain. As I said: we will never value education as much as Nigerians.

Why you say that? And what can change the mindset?

It's just not in American culture. Education here is too tied to exclusive institutions. It is seen as too long of a road. The "system" that implements our educational programs is corrupt and broken.

I think we just don't have any faith in what education can do for us while these Nigerians have a lot of faith.

Also to speak for myself, I've always been more of the work smart type and have been awarded for that in the real world. I refuse to waste my time with anything in school just for the sake of it being assigned. I feel like I'm punished when I read books not related to computer engineering to expand my horizons.

The intelligent AA is well rounded. School puts him in a square hole.

You said education is over valued but also that "we" will never value education? :heh:

We don't and won't. And it is - as I have said a million times skills are what you want.

Education leads to debt.

I'm of course using "educTion" synonymously with formal education, it's always good to learn new things.

I just think the job and the lab are better places to learn than the classroom, and talked about how I'm biased by my industry.

Some of you people care more about looking for something to disagree with than having a conversation. I'm done here.

I learned how to program in school and have made twice as much using that skill in the last 18 months as I will pay for my entire engineering degree.

State school for stem is a fukking cheat code.

Why you say that? And what can change the mindset?

Nothing can be done to change the mindset. A child's mind is controlled by his parents. Academically elite children are either a product of parents who are successful in the same field or they have parents who expose them to advanced opportunities outside the classroom. Usually it is a combination of both. Black American parents expect the school to do everything.

As for the brothers, their father is an Human Resources manager at an insurance company and their mother is a math teacher. Their mother is already planning for the oldest to go to MIT. Both boys attend a private school that charges about $10,000 per year. Average salary in Nigeria is about $7,000.

Now contrast the brothers with the black American kid in this story. The kid can't pass Florida's Algebra I state exam, so he might not graduate high school. His mother teaches elementary school math and says she can't do anymore to help.
