This is probably incoherent babble. Just ranting and typing with my thumbs on my phone. So don't mind me...

Have any of you watched this? If not, I suggest you do. A lot of it I'm sure you know if you're familiar with the subject of slavery and how imprisonment replaced it, but it was really good to me and I did learn some things I never knew about. For instance this company ALEC...pure diabolical evil.

I watched the movie Snowden right before this. I guess watching them both has really showed (not that any of this is surprising mind you) the erosion of our rights. In the case of blacks, the stifling of our achieving those rights in equal standing, but yeah...

Trump is president.

All I could feel as I watched the documentary was exhaustion. When will this shyt end? Why must we always be subjected to the bottom of a shoe? Can we just be!? It's everywhere, inescapable, a cloud over your head. Especially now, I feel like I'm just waiting for somebody to say something.

I just want to leave, but where would I go? Why should I have to?

The one thing that resonated with me was at the end when van jones said (paraphrasing), "we always talk about how I wouldn't stand for subpar treatment (slavery, Jim Crowe, etc.), but we're standing for it now". I've definitely said this, but I won't even go downtown to a protest :snoop:.

How did this complacency become so common place? For the amount of people there are we should be up in arms. Not just blacks, but everybody. All we are are ones and zeroes trying to make someone dollars and cents.

Money is evil. That's what everything always comes back to. It's miserable. The pursuit of power...

Le sigh :to:

America is sick at its core and it's crazy how people just take it's hypocrisy in their stride. :wow:

It's ridiculous really. I just think people are tired, weary, and distracted. What could we do though? That's what's so frustrating. I can sit here and spew ideas that sound great on paper but how would they be implemented? Who would pushback and how do we successfully resist? The propaganda is so ingrained in society at this point. It's just sad.

My homegirl was telling me about her African coworker (literally just got here) who said she didn't trust black people. She asked her why and she said what she saw on tv. She asked her if she had AIDS and lived in a hut with flies. She said no and my friend told her that's the image they show of Africa and you know it's not true. Just like the image of blacks in America isn't all true and there are reasons for the issues that we face.

The birth of a nation portion was very important as well. I think we really downplay the role imagery and media play in our portrayal. One thing I don't do is support ignorant imagery of black peoples because I know the significance. I feel it's extremely harmful for black children to see themselves demonized and made out to be objects (in reference of them speaking on the constant flood of dead black bodies in the media) that are consistently subjected to harm. I also feel that as a black person I am looked at as default guilty, ignorant, or any other negative stereotype that the media has bestowed upon us.

We shouldn't have to prove our humanity.

Even if we as a group come together there will be traitorous c00ns as seen throughout history even in slavery days.

When you can't even trust your fellow brother. :wow:

USA has a lock on influencing nations worldwide through their media and it's been showing black people in a negative light for decades. Most people know us through Hip-hop and rap.:wow:
