Come on now. I understand the adverse effects of really whooping your kids ass, but are you saying taking away privileges is also unreasonable punishment?

I'm saying it is a ridiculous punishment for a 16 year old. The kids top priority was his school work and he was getting that done because he was an honor student. If he wasn't living up to the rules of the house like curfew or chores, his parents needed to ask him if he expected to live in their house or get monetary support from them after he turned 18. Perhaps the rules needed updating or some simply eliminated. This needed to be discussed with the child, who was tried in court as an adult.

You have to ease your child into adulthood, let them make their own choices and deal with the consequences. Obviously there was no established procedure that would let him get his stuff back or he wouldn't have killed them like he did.
