Heat claims more than 175,000 lives across the WHO’s Europe region — spanning from Iceland to Russia — each year. A major studyco-authored by Masselot and published in January, which covered 854 European cities, warned that deaths from heat would rise sharply if significant climate adaptation is not prioritized.

:dahell: It makes sense because I was trying to explain central air conditioning to a bunch of Brit’s and they looked at me like I was explaining radio waves to a caveman. :mjlol:
Europe has heatwaves, they’re getting worse most places have no AC.

Most of these places use to have averages of 75-78 on a hot summer day. shyt my house in cali didn't have A/C when just opened windows and put on a fan I can't imagine doing that in a poorly isolated

It's not just no AC. The homes are extra insulated in northern europe so heat DOESN'T leave. You're just in the house cooking. At lease in Italy, Spain, South France, Croatia, and Greece there's an out door culture.
But that's also why they do so much shyt at night. It's too fukking hot in the day. Especially Spain.

It cracks me up when white people don't take climate change seriously.
They the first ones that will go extinct or be force underground if things continue to progress.
Then when there is less of them polluting the planet. Climate will recover and it'll just be brown people left

Dont get it twisted, the rich aren't the ones dying. Rich white right-wingers, the ones who take the decisions, don't care at all about white poor people dying. Also on the global scale it's the Global South that has been getting hit harsher than white countries, all the droughts heavy storms heat waves etc. Thing is it's always talked more about when it happens in the North, for obvious reasons.

Oh and China and India each pollute more than the entire EU (as does the US obviously), so changing the course is gonna take way more than white people taking climate change seriously. Would be great if they did tho obviously.

Anyway with global warming (the one y'all ACs contribute to) the summers keep getting hotter and hotter while houses especially in the northern parts of Europe are generally built precisely to keep the heat in. And you obviously have a lot of old people. Also in certain areas the heat is very sudden. A couple weeks ago we were around 24-25 degrees Celsius here in Brussels, then we had 4-5 days around 34-35 degrees, and now we're back in the low 20s. You don't have time to "get used" to the heat, it's just suddenly there.
