Sometimes I feel like this is meaningless. Sometimes it feels like we get paid in Monopoly money in America.
Your income in America isn't resilient at all. And it's often counteracted by the highest cost for the basics. Both that tech worker and doctor could have a case of cancer or a stroke and instantaneously be bankrupted, never to recover again because healthcare costs are 10 times high. That is not the norm in a place like france.
@Anerdyblackguy is right. We can have the same discussion about the education of both that IT worker and the doctor in relation to the incredibly affordable or free education in France. we can have the same conversation about housing or even basic household goods. We pay among the highest prices for basic things like even internet access
Now look at the different positions that France and the US are on the simple data cost list. And we can keep making lists like this for every single good and service . And it's just expensive for no reason. This is how you keep getting those weird statistics of Americans not being able to save more than $400 or not cover $1,200 emergencies. When you were gouged this much for everything , you can't even save.
Almost every dollar you earn is immediately sent out. And just look at the savings rates between us and france. Because they aren't being gouged they're getting far more out of their money.
By comparison ,Americans get to keep less 4% of what they earn.
