HOLMESBURG - Philadelphia police are investigating after a pipe bomb was reportedly discovered behind a church in Holmesburg.
Philadelphia police sources tell FOX 29 an 18-inch pipe bomb was found Sunday, just after 1:30 p.m., behind St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, on the 8500 block of Frankford Avenue, in Philadelphia's Holmesburg section.

Officials say a passerby found the pipe bomb, and noted it was a PVC pipe with capped ends and black powder on it.

Police shut down Frankford Ave., between Benson and Blakiston while the Philadelphia Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

The bomb squad safely took the pipe bomb out of harm’s way.

Given it is a Catholic Church and not in a heavy Black part like North or West Philadelphia I am not sure why they would target it to get Black folks especially when Bethany AME isn't far.

Holmesburg and Torresdale are pretty working class White too but @Leasy can correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah Mostly Whites and Ricans now.

Ive been to saint doms with my wife. It was pretty diverse back then. Not sure how it is now but f it is anything close to how it was then it doesnt feel like any particular race/ethnicity could have been targeted.

Fukked up shyt though in any case. Let people worship in peace. Even in times of war certain things should have an unspoken sacredness and be off limits.
