Interesting profile of Tommie Smith, John Carlos, and the events surrounding the famous 1968 Black Power Salute at the Olympics in Mexico City.

Worth a watch if you get a moment.

I didn't know that after the salute, Avery Brundage (racist President of the IOC) sent Jessie Owens (1936 Olympic Champion) to prevent any further similar demonstrations.

Owens was called an Uncle Tom by the other athletes and they chased him off.

It's a powerful story that went on back then.

Those guys were the epitome of courage. And it sucks what happened to a lot of them after the Olympics.

My Mom ran in the 1968 Olympics... she was tight with that white Australian dude who put up the fist too :russ:
