This was somewhat inspired by @smokeurobinson 1985 thread. 96 is one of my favorite years of all time. I was 19, on my own, going to college (Rutgers class of 2000), but was still fukking with those streets heavy. So I was involved in both worlds (college and the underworld). And the music during this time was on fire! Both the commercial and underground side of Hip Hop were putting out quality music. Quality R&B was still in the forefront. DJ Clue became the mixtape king around this time. Hot 97 was still worth a damn. Clubs like the Tunnel, Essos, Carbon, Palladium, Tavern on The Green were moving. What were some of your favorite moments, music, clubs, fashion, etc from that era?

I miss 96... :wow:

Favorite year of the 90s.

I spent that summer back in Fredricksted, St. Croix where my family on my mom's side is from. We was bumping Goodie Mob's "Soul Food", Nas' "It was written" (I'll admit, I became more familiar with Nas' work with this album moreso than Illmatic cause I was older at the time, well 12 years old still I'm old enough to remember it. 94, I wasn't even really into hip-hop like that, I'll be honest, I was about grunge and Alice in Chains and GReen Day and Rancid and shyt), Outkast's "ATLiens" (which was actually the first CD I ever bought with my own money and my first CD ever...still to this day an undisputed classic and one of the greatest albums I ever heard in my life), and Wu-Tang Clan.

Best hip-hop year ever in my opinion. So much heat.

I remember my cousin on my mom's side came through to stay with my older sis and me...we was chilling bumpin "All Eyes On Me"....all fukkin sum

Then when Pac died... :wow:

That stood out the most.

I remember where I was when I heard and saw on MTV News that Tupac died man...in the living room of my parent's house. It was all on MTV news all day, Kurt Loder announced it.

I was shocked as fukk we were all shocked just we didn't even know what to think cause he ruled that summer...it was sad...but moreso just shocking.

I think it was because he was the biggest rapper ever to die in the height of his fame...

Skated that whole summer too...I was a young adolescent black kid with baggy jeans/shorts wearing fila and fat albert t-shirts with airwalks or vans man. This was the year I got into hip-hop heavy too.

Also great movies....Independence Day the most hyped I ever been for a movie ever....Mission Impossible...The Cable Guy...Friday...

Ps1 on deck...with wipeout and street fighter...

I miss the 90s man... :mjcry:

Yeah I was telling my boy, 'All Eyez On Me' is 20 years old this year, and we were playing it in 2003, when we were 16-17....That album sounds timeless to me, I don't think it's aged.....1996 was just before my real initation into hip hop, but I still heard and bought a lot of the albums, because many 1996 rap and r&b singles were still in heavy rotation on the radio and tv....
