Tony Romo has been called a lot of things other than the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Now a former NFL player believes he's a both "a thief" and "a loser."
That would be retired NFL defensive tackle Travis Johnson, a first-round pick of the Texans in 2005. Per the Dallas Morning News, while Johnson was endorsing current Texans quarterback Matt Schaub
in an interview with Comcast Sports Net Houston, he used it as a chance to rip into Romo. According to Johnson, unlike Schaub, Romo isn't capable of taking a team to a Super Bowl.
"Tony Romo is not that guy. He is a thief," Johnson said. "They need to bring him up on federal charges right now. He don't even have a ski mask on. I'll tell you right now, if a man robs you with no ski mask on, he's going to kill you. That's exactly what he's doing, he’s killing the franchise."
Romo did make out like a bandit with his new seven-year contract in March, with $55 million of his $119.5 million guaranteed. But he earned it by managing to remain one of the more efficient, prolific quarterbacks in the league despite limited help from his running game, offensive line and defense.
Johnson had a much different view of Romo's supporting cast over the years.
"When Tony Romo got to Dallas he had everything around him and is a loser," Johnson also told CSN Houston. "Tony Romo was given everything he has gotten. At one time, he had five Pro Bowlers on the offensive line. They have no passing game, so nobody's worried about the run."
With Romo throwing to Dez Bryant, Miles Austin and Jason Witten, the Cowboys' passing game has few questions in 2013. The health and durability of DeMarco Murray is a huge concern in the backfield, and Dallas is still working on getting the most workable line combination. Although the Cowboys have had good talent on their line with Romo in the past, it's not considered a strength yet going into '13.
Johnson last played in the NFL in 2010 with the San Diego Chargers. He had a disappointing career considering his 15th overall selection, with just three sacks and 136 tackles in his six years.
For the record, Johnson pales in comparison to the defensive lineman the Texans drafted first overall in '06: Mario Williams.
Dude had the nerve to say Romo can't lead a team to a Superbowl but Matt Schaub can
Someone who was the 16th overall pick in 2005 by the Texans and got $7.7 guaranteed and had two sacks, zero forced fumbles, zero fumble recoveries in Houston wanna talk about stealing money and being a loser
As a Cowboys fan I must say when I heard about Romo's new deal I was
I hope Romo responds "He just feeling some type of way
