2104 has been a rough year. I don't really need to expand on that claim very much, do I? With the ugly face of racism rearing its head time and time again this year, even resulting in the deaths of Black men and women...why would I need to walk you through how awful 2014 has been?
But with the latest writings and interviews from Chris Rock and J Cole's new album, interviews and performances...yes, 2014 is ending on a good note.
It has to make you feel good as a Black person in this country to hear focused, eloquent and intense ideas about what racism really means in this country...and the brothers I mentioned are unapologetic. That is the key here, I think. There is an intentional message being aimed at white people and this country's power structure from young, irreverent, educated and talented individuals and they have the truth on their side. 2014 is ending on a good note. These voices have resources at their disposal and a built in audience.
I hope we all follow their lead in 2015.
