I remember in high school we gave the guys who didn't know about cars a hard time when they'd say some dumb shyt like S5 or M4.

M3 remains that's based on the sedan. The coupe will be an M4.

Folks here get really caught up in names. I don't see yall getting on Audi for the A4/A5 when its the exact same situation

i do understand what BMW are trying to do. but at the same time the M3 is such an iconic name and now it will only be available as a sedan.

they should go along with streamlining their cars but when it comes to the m4 just make the m3 available as a sedan and coupe

That link is not at all applicable. If BMW changed their name, their roundel, their company tagline, etc then sure. But re-branding != changing the name of certain products within that same brand.

Yea, there's some cost.

But I'm willing to bet that they'll end up making out pretty well in the deal.

Lets look at 2014 3 and 4 series sales numbers once they become available. I'd bet they're going to exceed 2013 3-series sales numbers, plus they're getting whatever additional premium they're charging for the 4 (some bullshyt, btw).

I'm excited about how the new 4 series looks, but I really hate that the term M3 will be the name of the sedan alone.

It has an iconic ring to it. M4 doesn't have the history to it, and when I think of the term "M4" I instantly think of:

The sad thing is, even when the "M4" is created, and has forums full of pictures with them, I bet when you google M4, you'll probably get pictures of cars AND guns.



I guess, we humans really hate change. I'm sure over time M4 will mean something epic...but for now, I dream of an M3.
