What could go wrong when you insert a military force into a volatile situation when they aren't actually law enforcement, but just soldiers? Why would you want a Governor to give them those policing powers? We already have decades worth of examples to look at to understand why using that heavily armed military force to occupy a city is a bad idea, especially where Black people are concerned. We can barely push back against regular police abuses, and now you want to involve the military?
We're also talking about a long-term deployment too, which is a waste of resources that could be used to address some of the problems that's causing the violence in the first place. Besides, any solutions that don't start with addressing the ease of access to guns is almost a waste of time.
Tell me how the national guard would help? Enforcing a curfew? Setting up military checkpoints at the end of every block? Stopping and frisking every resident? That collective punishment would cause more harm than good.
Ok. Year after year. We hear of black folks being killed. Year after year. Many can’t leave because they don’t have the funds. They’re helpless. And these goons know, I repeat, they KNOW they can continue this foolishness as long as it is other black peoples they’re killing. I say bring the national guard to stop the killing, you say whoa waaaait what could go wrong. Like wtf?? What could go wrong is cats who are clearly unfit for society clashing with the wrong army. National guards patrolling the streets keep nikkas in check. And those like you who want to test the waters will have a few things tested on you.

Just entrenched urban warefare, and there is no way other way to stop the violence other than sweeping gang injuctions and harsh sentences for people involved in violent crime. It may sound inhuman, but ultimately it will likely save lives.
In Illinois it is a minimum of 1 year for unlawful possession of a firearm. You would curb violent crime drastically if you increased it to 10 years.
