24 years ago, we lost one of the foundations.

Aaliyah was only 22 when she was killed in a 2001 plane crash, but the "Try Again" singer's star power and long list of accomplishments belied her age.

Aaliyah's story had barely begun before it was out of her hands.

But here we are—24 years after her untimely death in a plane crash at the age of 22—still unpacking her influence on pop culture.

I still remember waking up that Sunday to the news she had died.

We were robbed but her work is still timeless.

RIP to The Queen.

it's crazy the amount of music and hits she released while she was still here with us.
And she still had so much more to give. I wonder what her music would sound like today. Chick was forward thinking as hell. She was talking about collaborating with fukkin Nine Inch Snails back in 2001.

We really were robbed. :mjcry:

Rest in peace, but the revisionist history on Aaliyah gotta stop.
I think I know where this was headed. You think Aaliyah is overrated because she died? And she would be a flop today?

Its wild how critical nikkas be of Aaliyah but the music industry is going to make sure Selena stays uplifted.

Either way, im here to tell you...you are WRONG.

It's sad because she died young and was the most famous R. Kelly victim but she was not a legendary artist nor was she on track to be.

Her career was Ashanti with R. Kelly and Timbaland songwriting & production.
This is wrong.

First of all, you guys continuously misconstrue what it means to be an influential artist. For some reason, you guys equate somebody saying Aaliyah was impactful as the same thing as calling her the greatest artist of all time, in the history of ever. Nobody has ever said that. But what you can't do is deny Aaliyah's impact. She WAS and IS an influential artist.

Would I call her the GOAT? No. Would I even call her the GOAT of the 90s? Probably not. BUT she did have impact and you can't deny that. No other female artist has directly impacted generation Z and young millennials like Aaliyah. That impact TODAY is strong asf. She is literally the model for every new female singer coming out today and that has come out since like 2010.

So please spare me the bullshyt and go write about how overrated Selena is.

Nah she was an actress as well
She was the lead actress in two feature films at only the age of 22

Romeo must die made almost 100 mill and Queen of the damned made like 50 mill
