I was starting my senior year in high school when she died. There was one gay classmate who graduated high school in May of that year who was OBSESSED with her. He said if Aaliyah would have married her, he wouldn't be gay anymore. His younger sister was a sophomore at school and she told us when she died, dude was on suicide watch in the hospital.

It's crazy that she was only 22 at the time but it felt like she was older.
