u thought those hi hat patterns started with Lex Luger and the trap movement? Three 6 was doing this shyt in the mid nineties, so was Timbaland.

Hell, this came out in 96

glad you found a good the original commercial mainstream gateway point for that sound in rap for a mainstream fan.

no more pain, is the regular fan pop go to pre-cursor.
to the drum patterns timbaland would eventually make a rap staple.
via rnb, and Aaliyah, on a main stream level
except, devonte swing, took said drum patterns from timbo, and found how to use them for pac.
when, timbo and others were part of his slave producer production camps.
before, timbo would get a chance to showcase said drum pattern innovation himself.
on Aaliyah's one in a million, as a lone producer credit.

timbo and even pharrell, are rnb producers.
who were able to successfully make high quality rap singles.
they are nowhere near great from a produce an entire rap album standpoint consistently.
to be called the goat of rap production.

as far as new all music is concerned,...
timbo revolutionized drum programming, period.

on top of being progressive rnb's GOAT producer.

I already said:

pharrell was nowhere near great from a produce an entire rap album standpoint consistently.
pharrell is basically a wannabe retread of reasonable doubt as a rap producer, on an album as a project.
or, tries to make an emo alternative produced gangsta/drug dealing album of bullshyt like the clipse second lp.
which is typically nowhere near my personal listening.
