I figure I'd start a book of the month thread for this section since I'm at a black owned bookstore. You can support the shop through the link in the sig or if you're in the DC area stop by we're at 2714 Georgia Ave. You can also simply go to your nearest Black owned bookstore and support them with your purchase.

Yes I know it's easy to use amazon, yes I know some of their prices are good, but that's not always the case. A prime example, Metu Neter Vol 1 costs $45.00 on amazon while it costs $29.95 where I'm at. So sometimes there's more than one advantage to buying Black. With that said, here's a few flicks I've taken of some titles we've got in stock here:

11112423_10153390557538072_4383182420824500685_n.jpg

Along with that we've also got rare autographed books from authors such as Toni Morrison and Amiri Baraka. All of the proceeds go to fund a new film project on the maroon colonies by filmmaker Haile Gerima.

It's a lot of books to choose from for an official book of the month so give me a sec while I pick from the selection. If you all had any suggestions please feel free to add them. Also, share the last book that you read and even the last Black owned business that you supported. :tu:

breh i was about to make a large purchase of books off amazon. can they ship if i buy thru your store?

Yeah, I do inventory and shipping so I gotchu on that. Just let me know the titles so I know if we got em or if we gotta order them. I'm actually getting ready to go back to the old Jen Pohl thread to add some of those Black Twitter contacts onto the store's twitter account. I'm tryna do as much as possible to let fellow Black folks know about us and the other businesses on this block.

Yeah, I been MIA but I'm almost always lurking at work I just don't got the time to post like that. It's kinda time consuming when you actually work for one of these businesses because you find yourself doing as much as you can to produce business. It's not like these billion dollar places that just go off a brand or something it's really some organic grassroots shyt over here.

But yeah that's a bet, I was suppose to go to the warehouse in B-More this past Monday but luckily my co-worker called out cuz it's smack in the middle of all that fukkery going on. I'ma prolly try to go up there next Monday more than likely so I can look for anything that you want specifically for younger readers.

For Hampton Roads brehs

Roots in Lynnhaven Mall
Ebony Arts & Gifts in Chesapeake Square
Positive Vibes on Indian River Road in VA Beach
I'm not sure if African Attractions in Pembroke Mall is still there, last time I went was two years ago and it was.

But I know for a fact all those I listed above are 100% black owned. I have to say that because there are some retailers that carry those products which aren't .

I'm at work right now but I'll call up tomorrow morning.

Aight, I don't work on Fridays and weekends so I'll let my co-worker handle it. She'll be in from 11 to 8PM EST. Just tell her Yonathan put you on and you was just tryna buy a book and she'll handle the rest.

Oh, and before you ask yes she's as fine as she sounds. :takedat:

I do wholesale with Positive Vibes they buy our movies from us. Good people down there. I forgot what the brothas name was that does inventory but I told myself I'd go down there one of these days. Black and Nobel in Philly is another spot I'm very interested in seeing so if anyone in Philly can give me a review I'd appreciate it. :myman:

Was his first name Brett?? If it was that's definitely good people right there. Every time I roll through there he usually treats me to Papa Willy's Jamaican Food right next door (good food btw).

Yup Brett was his name. Real cool peoples, one of these days if I can make it out there I'ma make it a point to check Positive Vibes out. I've actually gotta begin a project where I reach out to all the Black owned bookstores to see who may want our films since this store doubles as a film production company so I'm going to be getting to know all the different Bretts of the Black bookstore world.
