Unified light heavyweight world titlist Artur Beterbiev's title defense against Adam Deines has been rescheduled for March 20, most likely in Russia, according to the WBC.

Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs), of Russia, who also owns the IBF title, was scheduled to face Meng Fanlong in March 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic forced that fight to be rescheduled for October 2020. When Fanlong couldn't secure a visa to travel to Russia for the fight, he was replaced by Deines. A month before the fight was supposed to take place, Beterbiev suffered a rib injury and the bout was postponed and rescheduled for Jan. 30. But Beterbiev tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight was postponed again. According to the WBC, Beterbiev has now recovered from the virus.

Beterbiev, 35, won the IBF title with a KO victory over Enrico Koelling in 2017. He added the WBC belt by defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk by 10th-round TKO in October 2019.

Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs), 29, of Russia, but based in Germany, has won two consecutive fights since losing to Meng in June 2019.

On Monday, the WBC ordered former super middleweight titlist Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez and Marcus Browne to start negotiations to fight for the WBC light heavyweight interim title due to the uncertainty of Beterbiev's return.

"This is an interesting opportunity and I'm ready to fight anyone in the light heavyweight division to leave my mark on the sport," Ramirez said via press release. "I know Marcus has been out of the ring for a while, but he's a U.S. Olympian and still one of the best in the game. I know he's wanted this fight for a while and hopefully we can make something happen.

"In addition, it's always been my dream to get the green belt [WBC] and bring it back to Mexico."

According to the Russian Boxing Federation (RBF), former WBA "regular" welterweight champion Alexander Besputin, who has been inactive since November 2019, will fight against Argentina’s Maximiliano Veron on March 20 at the Megasport Arena in Moscow.

The contest will be part of the undercard to Artur Beterbiev's defense of the IBF, WBA light heavyweight titles against German contender Adam Deines.

Veron, 32-years-old and, has a record 12 wins, with four by knockout, three defeats and one draw.

Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs), 29-years-old, won the WBA 'regular' belt in November of 2019 in Monaco with a twelve round decision over Radzhab Butaev.

After the fight in Monaco, Besputin tested positive for the banned performance enhancing drug Ligandrol.

Besputin requested a testing of his B-Sample, which also returned a positive result for the same banned substance in June of last year. The WBA would strip him and handed down a six month suspension.

Besputin went pro in in October 2015 and through manager Egis Klimas he came on board with Las Vegas-based promoter Top Rank.

Besides the contest in Monaco, all of his ring outings have taken place in the United States.

In the amateur ranks, the Russian boxer was the 2012 Russian champion, the 2013 European champion and the silver medalist of the 2015 European Games.

Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs), a two-time Russian Olympian, returns to home soil for the first time as a professional. He unified world titles in October 2019 with a 10th-round TKO over Oleksandr Gvozdyk, solidifying his position as the sport’s top light heavyweight. Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs) has won a pair of bouts since dropping a decision to Meng Fanlong and enters as the underdog looking to spoil Beterb iev’s perfect record and status as the only current world champion with a 100 percent knockout rate.

Besputin (13-0, 9 KOs) has not fought since November 2019, when he bested Radzhab Butaev by unanimous decision to win a version of the welterweight world title. The result was changed to a no-contest after Besputin tested positive for a banned substance. Veron (12-3-1, 4 KOs) is coming off a career-best performance in November 2019, a unanimous decision over Diego Ramirez (21-2 at the time) to win the IBF Latino welterweight belt.
